Pay to win??? At least in this instance it is..

Should Captains Skill reset be Doubloon($$) Only?

45 members have voted

  1. 1. Captains Skill Reset is currently only available to "paying" users. Do you agree with this?

    • Yes. I think only paying members be able to reset captain skills
    • No. That's essentially Pay to Win. Everything else in WOWs is available for non paying players. There should be an option for non-paying members to reset captains skills too.

Being able to "Reset" captions skills is the only thing that non paying players are able to do.

Why is it? Do you agree with it?

WG has long maintained that both paying and non paying players have access to the same game mechanics. That the game is not designed in favor of paying members (for examples they have said that premium ships are on average of lower effectiveness or same as the same tier tech tree version). But why doesn't this apply for Captains Skill Resets?

Should this change? What do you think?

Its a simple perk that they get if you don't do research and plan ahead.  If you do, you rarely have to.  Oh and starting tomorrow for a week everyone gets 100 doubloons and SUPER cheap skill rests (1 db per skill point reset) so everyone can rest right now.  And they've given a free respec in the past when it was warranted.  Asides a game company has to make money to continue making the game and skill reset isn't that big of a thing.

Well, it's not "pay to win", it's pay to have a different build on your captain. You can still win with suboptimal builds just fine.

Now, that said, it would be awesome to have a way to respec captains without having to pay real money, and hopefully that will be implemented in time. But, it's not terrible as it stands now. I pretty much know what builds I'm going to go with when I start all the lines.

Awfully entitled for enjoying a product you don't have to spend a cent on.

Well I've spent well over $200 on the game so far (more than 5X than the most expensive AAA title I've bought, lol).

I am not against a company making money. That's essentially how they make the product.

I just find it odd that there is a "non paying" option for everything else (albeit with a loooong grind) but this. Sort a off, no?

Also if you participate in the PT server doubloons and premium time are common rewards.

I know premium time is a common reward but I've never seen doubloons given.

Pay 2 Skip is the term that is the more viable term you're looking for here.

You can always make a new captain and train him from the ground up, for point retraining that just skips the fact you need to grind up a captain.

i'm perfectly fine with it. everything essential is free. privileged things cost real money.

Wait for the PT server to open and do the exclusive missions. Again premium time and doubloons are often rewards for participating in the tests.

I'm pretty sure this latest round of PT time had a doubloon reward for DD captains. It was like 300 or something.

You do realize they're giving you a free 100 doubloons tomorrow right? AND reducing respec costs to 1 doubloon per skill.

It sounds like what's you're asking is already in the works anyway:

"At this time we cannot technically make dropping Skills free (we’ll probably have to fix that)"

That's not paying to win.. it's paying to fix a mistake, or choose a different path.

By the way, Wargaming is giving mooches like you a freebie tomorrow through the 4th.

Personally, I don't mind when they do this stuff. I've bought every premium but the 4 big ones and the 2 DD's, and that was in one day. I've also spent over $1300 on WoT and I'm only missing 4 low low tier premium tanks and the Mutant, KV5 and the T-34-85. I have probably spent more money on WG stuff than most people....so this isn't an issue for me. What my issue is.....is them not making 100% all premiums 100% available 24/7. Exclusive/rare premiums are a bad business practice. Say what you want; "I have a cool rare and you don't....ptthttht", but that's a bunch of crap. If people want and have the money....for whatever it is you provide in your product, you should offer it. That's good business sense. And this goes for every game and every company. Offering something as an incentive gift for doing something isn't fair to everyone. Example: the USS Arkansas BB for Alpha testers. Will that be exclusive to them forever? That's not fair.....not many people were even given the option to get or miss that. And yet...we have to run into it. Every single premium should be offered to the general public at least once.....otherwise it's a bit of a slap to the face of your player base. And before someone says "its a reward for playing there alpha and helping them"...the reward is getting to alpha test. Its very selective.....its a reward to get in. I just got done alpha testing Battlefield 1 and I didn't get anything...and I'm not mad at all. I didn't expect anything. The alpha test was a great reward on its own.

I totally get that this was a rant completely off topic, but I'm trying to say...I get how you feel not getting to get something due to a dumb limitation. Honestly, I do think it should cost gold, but everyone should get to buy it. What sense, in a business point of view, does it make to lock out a group of people? That's less money on your end. If you're going to make it Premium accessible only, it SHOULD NOT cost dabloons. It should cost silver. Non premium players can still purchase dabloons and spend them just as Premium players....

And one final issue, since I'm on the topic of dabloons and premium time. Why is this the one WG game that doesn't share between games? WoT and WoWP share gold and Premium time.......but this one has "dabloons" and doesn't share jack all. That's a bit crap.

Pretty sure anyone could get the Arkansas beta for participating in the Beta test.  The Iwaki Alpha is a much more rare ship since it is given to Alpha testers.  People who were with the game likely before any Alpha builds even came out as they developed the community.  So in a sense.  Everyone had a chance to get an Alpha or Beta ship.  They just needed to put in time.  And have an interest in the game.

Also.  Some people that do Alpha tests do things like report bugs.  They test content and give their impressions on it.  While playing a game in the Alpha stages can be fun.  They push through bugs.  Find them, repeat them. Servercrashes.

Offering those ships.  Especially the alpha (Unfortunately I don't have one =<)  Is a Slap in the face to the people that actually put time into the game.  While some of them might have played for fun.  Plenty of them did work to make this a better game for the rest of the community.
