Playing with a newbie in a division

I would've searched for this myself, if I knew what the feature was called or what keywords could bring it up: the feature that separates the newbies from the veterans in low tier battles.

Now, the reason I'm asking about this is because I have a friend that is interested in trying the German BBs when they are released. We both started playing together at the launch of open beta, but he stopped after 36 random battles and 18 co-op battles. Like I said, he is interested in trying the German BBs but he is obviously quite rusty (pun intended :medal:). I'd be more than happy to division up with him and get him started with the tier 1 Hermelin and try to help him gain personal experience and knowledge which I have learned since open beta started more than a year ago. But now, more recently, it occurred to me that WG has implemented a separation between newbies and veterans in these low tiers, and that I might end up hurting my friend instead of helping him as I draw him up against veteran 'seal clubbers.'

At which point does a player leave the newbie crowd and join the veteran crowd? After how many battles, experience, or service record level? I'm half of the reason why he wants to give it another go since it's more fun to play and talk with someone you know out of game. I just don't want to end up bringing him into the veteran crowd when he's clearly not ready, nor do I want to have to leave him on his own. Neither scenario will be much fun for him. It was much different a year ago when we were both newbies fighting against other newbies.

They always say your first 1k matches is where you're out of the "newbie" territory; at least that was what was agreed on in WoT. In WoWs, it can be as early as first 500. I say when he gets his first VIII he can be called experienced. Maybe if you wanna do some prep work, try getting him to V and just stick there for a while. Its a lot more simplistic than higher tiers - 16km torps, CVs that have planes to spare, Yamatos, Stealth fire Zaos and whatnot. I wouldn't just start playing with him the minute KM BBs are launched, it may actually ruin it for him if he can't play them well. These are just my thoughts, feel free to ignore them.

I'm not sure there's anything official that keeps new players from encountering veteran players, beyond the good graces of veteran players not playing low tiers just to stack up sinkings.

Probably better to just play low-tiers again yourself to watch over and help ease him back into the game.

In any case; gently discourage him from rushing up any of the tech trees. in the long run the lessons learned from grinding will pay off. In lower tiers it doesn't take that long to advance anyway with moderately successful gameplay. One of the things that will slow him down will be if he wants to keep ships. Selling them can be an important source of income in some cases, especially if he goes the total free to play route.

Help him learn to aim again, if necessary. Encourage him to try all ship types (again?) so he'll understand how they work.

Sorry if I'm jabbering about things you've already considered.

Well as I said, he needs to start with the Hermelin first, then the Dresden, and so on. I honestly doubt he will get to tier 5 any time soon, so I'm just talking about explicitly staying in the low tiers. I'll obviously match his tier so I won't be bringing him into any battles he shouldn't be in.

My question is if I will be doing more harm than good by playing with him as he advances at his own pace due to my status as an experienced player?

i'm going to go through whole German BB line and since VoIP will be added tonight for divisions it will be much better. so if you need a third member - count me in. I'm rather average player but I love and do pretty well on battleships

Don't worry, you're not jabbering. Good points to always consider for newbies.

There is technically a kiddie pool that new accounts will play in while there are enough players. However, if there aren't enough players or the player divisions with a veteran, they will get kicked into the regular queue. I can't remember exactly where it is but it seemed like when one of my friends got to T4 or service record level 8 the MM changed. But I don't know what the exact cutover point it is. In the end, it is a blessing and a curse since while it gives them a place to play without being clubbed, the kiddie pool queues can be ridiculous at times compared to what you and I would expect for anything other than a high tier carrier. I would recommend sticking with co-op with him in the beginning since you don't have to deal with veteran players and he will have more time to learn how his ship works before progressing up the line. Normally, I recommend to my friends to wait until they at least get a T3 or T4 before venturing into random battles. This gives them enough time to work on their aim against the low level bots. Plus, with you being in division, you can give him pointers easily enough to improve his play.

You can always start off in coop matches first til your friend gets the hang of things.  This way your stats wont get out of wack while your buddy gets some experience.

I'm pretty sure it's highly individual and doesn't depend on any of those factors.

I randomly looked someone up recently and concluded that they are 1) not a CBT player, 2) likely not a reroll, and 3) 53 out of 70 total battles played were in Warspite with unicum level stats. Conversely, after a couple-three thousand WoT battles total on 2 accounts (long story, not a stat reroll) I'm still a total scrub.

When your friend is ready, you'll know it.

Also, Co-op fail divisions are not that bad from a win perspective;  the MM will give the bots a mirror fail.  On the other hand, the high tier bots will show no mercy to low tier opponents.
