The CVs have mirror matchmaking, true. They're talking about the other ships MM selects... battleships, cruisers, and destroyers. 

 

Now you don't have to worry about facing a Colorado in your Bogue/Zuiho.

I'm very happy with these (and other) matchmaking changes.  This will help reduce accidental fail-divisions dragging battleships up to higher tiers than they're supposed to see.  Hopefully, poor Wyoming and Myogi captains will stop trying to duel with the Fuso and New Mexico now.

A bunch of lower tiered ships had preferential matchmaking.  Now all of them (up to tier 4 -- with the exception of the Imperator Nikolai I) will.

How does this affect Nikolai I? The notes I saw did not mention it. Wasn't it a T4 that could see T6?  Will it now be limited to T5 max? or is it still an exception?

It will stop the chance of a T7 to go to T9 or maybe T6 all the way to T8 (which happens quite a bit)

As I said above, I have never met tier 7 ships with Bogue and Zuiho.

Afaik tier 5 CV had always +1 MM. So Idk if WG is confused by itself by telling tier V CV has now +1MM

All tier 4 Battleships and tier 4 Carriers had preferential matchmaking (they saw up to a maximum of tier 5).  However, these warships often saw tier 6 because they would buddy up with a tier 4 cruiser or destroyer in a division and get pulled into a higher match than they would normally see.  With the new patch, all tier 4 ships see a maximum of tier 5 now, so that should largely correct it.

 

As for the Imperator Nikolai I -- it has always seen up to tier 6.  I sincerely doubt they'll "correct" her matchmaking, as she makes a mockery of 356mm armed vessels with alarming regularity, even if her own guns are only 305mm.
