Simple rule of thumb. When you see all that spit flying between my Mikasa and a nearby enemy vessel, that spit will harm you.

I've had matches in which I announced this at the beginning. Then again when all 3 destroyers went in between myself and the enemy while I was approaching. I've then had people complaining about it when they take more than 3k damage from my secondaries. Even after a 3rd warning.

Even after not paying attention.

Even after having a space/time altering brain fart.

Even after praying to Neptune.

Even after WG builds a ship that is ineffective anywhere but at point blank range.

Even in Russia, there are plenty of stupid people.

You need to take this into account if you are to penalize players for damage to allies.

No, it isn't my fault. No, I'm not turning my secondaries off because people are that stupid. WG needs to recognize that secondaries are out of our control, and should not be counted toward allied damage totals as a penalty. Easy enough to do, now that secondary hits are tracked.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those secondaries kick in no matter what position the 'p' button is in, right?  I have only sailed mine in PvE matches and no matter what I do, I cannot stop the secondaries from hitting allies.

No idea. I have never turned them off.

I don't see why it's so hard to not damage friendlies. Secondaries on or off.

The point is that we shouldn't have to. If they're between me and an enemy that's less than 3.8 km away, they're obviously

1. playing bad by limiting my fire

2. way too close to the enemy

3. way too close to me for him or myself to maneuver too well.

So he kinda deserves to get damaged. However, i do try to use P so i don't get pinked or sometimes because i feel bad for the other guy that's taking secondary fire from a Mikasa.

I agree. I warn people at the beginning, same as you. Idjits still do it.

I have to believe they are low-tier, and inexperienced players, not idjits, but when they have been warned, and they still do it...

Turning secondaries off in Mikasa effectively shuts the ship down. It is a signal for the crew to take out their fishing gear and go catch dinner. That is not what you want from them.

I always find it amusing how newbies in low tiers go to fight the enemy at 2km or less distance, thereby getting killed, but precluding all your allies from shooting or torping because they are in the way. They have not yet learned their torpedo and gun range and how to shoot from a distance. That is bad for the team as you can't shoot. That is everything to Mikasa which is rendered a spectator.

Because the secondaries fire at enemy ships regardless of who's between the muzzle and the target.  Add to that the fact that people just don't pay attention and there you have it: TK's and friendly damage.

This really isn't any different than people constantly moving in front of IJN DDs that are trying to fire torps.  You know what I do when a friendly is moving in front of me and my torps might hit him?  I don't launch them.

No, P turns off anti-air and secondary batteries. Which is why I refuse to turn them off on my Yamato. Aircraft are a bigger threat to Yamato than they are to Mikasa, naturally. However, secondary guns are also Mikasa's primary form of damage output and so turning them off is still unreasonable.

Either people need to stop sailing between battleships when secondary guns are firing or secondary guns need to stop damaging allies.

i've heard stories of Yamato's 15.5cm secondary gun multi-citting allied cruisers who were stupid enough to sail between Yamato and another battleship within 10km of each other. I haven't had this experience yet but I don't want to have it either. I can't control other peoples' stupidity, Wargaming.

I always wonder why to players go between a ship like the Mikasa and the enemy.  Its already close in, less than 4km, and you're getting closer?  This ranks up there with the ships sailing in a straight line and then complaining when they get torped or citted to death.

Wrong.  It's a lot different because no matter what position your "P"  switch is in, the secondaries open up when an enemy ship comes in range.  I see it all the time and my AA/Secondaries are OFF.

the P switch toggles back on if you alt-click a target aircraft or surface target. P disables secondaries otherwise.

Unless there's a glitch or something with the Mikasa at the moment, that's not the way it works.  I know it shuts them off in every ship I own.

Interesting... I've had games where I get 12 citadels in 2-3 minutes of fighting because the range has fallen suicidally close and I'm firing AP into the sides of enemy ships at low tiers. But that's just me.

You may be right, but I swear I can't tell a difference.

A recent change in the UI causes secondaries and AA to toggle back on if you alt-click an enemy target, so you may be turning it back on without realizing it, since it doesn't involve hitting P a second time.

We're in the closing days of a kill-count event ... scumbaggery to dive in and steal a kill-shot will run rampant until it's over.

In the mean time, I've refrained from playing my Mikasa beyond getting the 50% for the day.

If you sail between ANY Battleship and the enemy when they're engaging in acts of piracy, you're screwing up.

Don't be a dirtbag.

Don't go there.

Haha. It's even worse in PvE.

The idiotic friendly bots decide the best course of action is to go full speed at the enemy ships then STOP DEAD and park right next to them. This happens of course just as you finally lumber into secondary range with your Mikasa.

Oh and while we're on the subject....PLEASE DON"T FIRE TORPS INTO A BRAWL (close combat zone between ships - like the Mikasa). You will only end up hitting the friendly ship - you can count on it!

Haven't had the bots do that yet, human players yes, bots no.  First time it happened I thought as you, stupid bot.  Then looked to see which bot it was, and lo and behold to my surprise, a human player.  I now think when playing my Mikasa, MM places the dumbest players around to play with me.

Ah, that must be it.  Thanks!
