Yes, and it was created by a person who just lost to a cyclone, because their team did not properly use the cyclone. Also, sure, I approve of this. Weather is cool. Frankly I'd like an option for Cylone-free random, but that's just it makes it harder to find action.
492 _Rumple_ Members 1,533 posts 12,151 battles Report post #7 Posted July 26, 2016 Been in 3 cyclone games recently; won 2 but all were annoying. Half the team just sits back and nobody does any dmg unless they remembered the last known enemy positions, which I did. Apparently though this is beyond the majority of players and for that reason alone, I say remove cyclones completely.
964 [PLPT] SergeantHop Members 4,435 posts 6,599 battles Report post #8 Posted July 26, 2016 I absolutely love the cyclones. I do my best work when I get to appear next to my enemy in my Tirpitz. Last known positions on the minimap are key to using cyclones effectively. Popping out of the mist right behind two Fusos and a Tirpitz all pointing their guns the other direction is a special joy that I rarely get to experience, but would certainly like to have more often.

Some people do indeed get frustrated by the cyclone. But I like the variety of experience created by the weather effects, including cyclone -- I hope there are more people who fear burning out on the same-old same-old all the time than there are people who get stressed by the challenge of adapting. My vote is for keeping them and increasing the frequency. However, in a perfect world, players would have an option to 'turn off weather effects in matchmaking' so that they personally would never have to play in a match with weather effects if they're truly that stressed out by them. (I know, I know, the effects on MM would probably be unworkable.)

Most cruisers and VMF DDs do terribly in poor visibility, as do quite a few other ships in various categories. For one, such a massive situational nerf is the last thing that criusers need, being a struggling ship type with a disproportionately high skill floor and serious identity issues, at least in high tiers. I certainly don't claim to be a guru of this game (see what I did there?), but I know a thing or two. When I see the cyclone warning as a cruiser main, I know that one of two things is likely to happen in the next 5 minutes: a) I play it safe and get jack for damage, or b) I play aggressively and essentially engage in a Russian roulette wherein I stand a 50/50 chance of killing someone or getting killed on the spot, and likely won't emerge with much HP remaining regardless. Seeing how I generally stand a somewhat better chance of winning a random encounter (4.7 k/d), cyclone is basically a direct nerf to skill as well as to my preferred ship type. So... 23 JamesSinks Members 184 posts 2,853 battles Report post #11 Posted July 26, 2016 Few would probably like it bit to add more realism the ships would roll up and down on waves. Way back when ships just didn't load and shoot. They had to wait and time firing their guns on the crest of a wave when the ship was at it's peak on the wave. Sounds like you do fine enough. It's called variety, it keeps the game interesting. If everything was always perfect for every ship, people would quit playing, so putting the best ships in the game at the disadvantage every now and again isn't going to end the world. Surely there are other things that could be added to change the game? What about high winds. Lightning? huge storm? Yes, this. And they could easily play with the spotting ranges, which should just be variables. There is literally a whole world of possible weather patterns out there to incorporate and countless possible in-game effects. More variety = more challenge = more fun. WG has acknowledged it in the past, and the prospect is not off the table, but they were considering it for a "hardcore" mode of sorts. I think it would be awesomely fun.
