What did I do wrong in this game?

My Shokaku went into a Tier X match. Seeing an enemy Lex and asked for escort, but I immediately was scolded by teammate montana for saying that I do not know how to play and "go back to Ryujo". After we won he still said "go back to Hosho" because, according to him, I "did not help DDs and did not assist the team". Please guys, tell me what did I do wrong in the game? Honestly, I have no idea.

Because Shokaku has a defensive fire ability and you should know how to play against CV sniping already.

Okay? How about their 1000lb bombers going to me one at a time? Their bombers would still cause fire? Also Shokaku's fighters are not durable enough to stay on their bombers the entire time, and are also limited by their payload. Furthermore, please view my replay and tell me whether I did my role as a TIER 8 carrier in a Tier 10 game. Do not jump to conclusions. Thank you

Gluing fighters into a dogfight with attack planes is a last-ditch measure to force the panic effect when you don't have enough ammo for another strafing run, or when the enemy CV player is doing such a good job at dodging that it's your only hope to inflict losses. But with inferior fighters it must be understood that the moment you stick fighters into a dogfight you're giving up your chance to win that encounter.

I know and the CV was not on to me, but...can you guys take a look at my replays and give me some feedback please? I want to know whether I really helped my team or not.

you bought a CV  in.  :D  that was the issue.       and worse yet,  you asked for escort.  taking away firepower from the fleet.

Can't watch the replay at work.

However, in my honest opinion, CV players fall into two categories.

There are "utility" CVs and "damage" CVs.

Utility CV players try their best to push planes away from DDs and Caps and expose enemy DDs at the same time.  They use their planes to control airspace and are only slightly concerned about getting in as much damage as possible.  Often times to aid in their method, they will use their fighters to control airpace and send their attack planes to the other CV.  While not technically a CV snipe, it can be a very benefiical strategy to the team on a whoel, but does not score much XP for the CV.

Damage CV players do not care about team mechanics at all.  They're more interested in sinking ships and sending their squadrons in one giant group towards a BB that they're not likely to sink anyways.  They use their fighters to escort their own planes to and from the CV.  While this method does not do very much for the team strategy-wise, they may get a lot of damage in, which would lead to larger XP.

Which CV player are you?

I only do damage when an enemy is deemed to dangerous to live. Otherwise I serve the interest of the team. When you have the time please watch the replay. Thank you very much.

I hear you asking, and if I was going to I would have on the first request. But it's a ship that I don't know well enough to make it worth the time it would take me.

Why do you care what some clown in a Montana says?  He's likely to be a substandard troll that hates CV's whether friend of enemy, so do what you've been doing and ignore these guys.

If you don't know carriers don't sweat it. Its just an entire different game for carriers out there

Honestly, once you "asked for help" it would not have mattered if you had single-handedly sunk the entire red fleet, this guy would be giving you a hard time.  He would have found something to criticize you about, and made sure everyone else knew about it.  Don't let guys like this get under your skin.

I did not watch the replay but Centarina sums it up pretty astutely as usual along with Kerensky.

There is a big reaction that goes on in my head when someone in the back asks for someone else to stay in the back- just stay with your babbies bro, just stay with/behind the lemming train.

As soon as the first guy in a match calls for a "no need to push" or a "let's all go to (x)"  It's over, we lost......

As soon as the first guy says "I'm gonna hang back and guard my [edited]"  It's over we lost.

It starts a cumulative cascading failure.

Just click control and put the cursor on them and iggie them away bro.

For all you know that's a 9 year old on his dad's account.

Take his advice and go back to lower-tier CV games? Honestly, let the high-tier prima-donna's go off and play with themselves.

Not going to watch the replay since I don't play CVs, but don't worry about the complaints of others if you're performing your best. There will always be somebody full of vitriol trying to spread their toxicity.

Biggest thing you did wrong was let him get under your skin, which is presumably why you brought this issue here. I'm actually rather curious now whether replays count under the name and shame rule.

Concerning initial plane placement, the double DB sneak is of questionable value in T8. There aren't going to be ships up there for you to detect, and two single IJN DB squadrons aren't going to do much damage when it comes down to it. Spotting over the caps is more standard, and I suspect more effective overall.

As far as carrier play goes, it looked like you dropped macro a few times. You had a bomber behind their backline not doing much for quite a while, and a fighter idling over an island. You also did that thing that annoys friendly DD players, which is to hover your fighters over them like a giant beacon. In the mid-game, your bombers were trickling all over the place and not setting up effective kills. You tightened that up somewhat by the end.

At a matchup level, there's very little need to have a dedicated escort as Shokaku against Lexington. Your fighters and DF are plenty to stop either Lexington variant from ever effectively hurting you, unless he wastes the whole game doing it (once your DF is down and half your HP is gone, asking for assistance is more understandable).

Use manual fighter attacks. Save ammo for panicking DB as they drop onto you, assuming you don't have DF at that point.

All in all, if the enemy CV spends the entire match trying to snipe you, he essentially takes himself out of the game. Even if he eventually kills you, as long as you did damage to enemy frontline ships you've contributed more.

PS And don't ask for escort. Those ships are needed at the frontline. I always refuse escorts even when they are offered.

They were pissed you didn't use the fighters... That DD is moron.  You are in a IJN CV... as a DD driver you need to realize they are not going to be able support you.  Now if you were in a US CV, it would be different.  I wish all played with fighter loads.

"You also did that thing that annoys friendly DD players, which is to hover your fighters over them like a giant beacon"  - Seriously?  If he had a fighter over me I would be glad to have it.

I doubt you did anything wrong, as I play a CV a Tier lower, it all seemed ok

My single biggest peeve with CV drivers if they pool up a strike, run down the edge of a board WITH their fighters going for a CV snipe.  Chances are REAL good if the enemy CV is out spotting caps, using their DB and T planes to attack/harass enemy DDs then we are going to lose, and lose bad.  The CV snipe is a pretty old tactic that doesn't pay off too well.  I think at T10 you can still pull it and if your a great CV driver, you may succeed and then its a game turner, but any long range CV strike takes the planes out of the battle for a LONG time, no spotting, no harassing.  Be a good CV driver, spot for your team, protect your DDs, spot enemy DDs that are going for BB targets.  With that said, MOVE that CV early and often.

Did you win?

Nothing wrong.

There's as much to learn from victories as defeats!  :D

Thank you for your feedback. That DB was in a tough place because of the tough AA it has to go through so I temporarily decided to let it stay there.
