Could someone explain 0 dmg?

So i've noticed that on occasion when I land a good hit (not a bounce, overpen, or armor absorb...a solid hit according to the detailed ribbons), nothing happens.

I just played a game in my North Carolina with over a dozen such hits in a row. Very frustrating as these were all well placed on the enemy. entire salvos would have 3 or 4 good hits with nothing to show for it. AP shells, no incapacitations, again, they were not in any way mitigated; 0 damage. According to the game they were good hits, yet 0 damage results. Explanation?

The consensus seems to be on those hits hitting a module and the module soaking the damage.

It's really annoying and needs to go away.

I have had several battles in which little or no damage was done to an enemy ship when it should have been devastating.

I was in a battle last night playing my N. Carolina.  I fired at a New Orleans that was about 8k away.  9 of 9 shells hit it amidships and did only 5k damage.  It was broadside to me, only had about half HP left, it should have been sunk. I don't understand how damage is calculated but it needs fixing.

I don't get it either.  I was in my North Carolina the other day and was battling a Pensacola less than 10km away.  Salvo after salvo I was doing 1k or less damage.  Some were bouncing somehow, others supposedly penning and there was the odd over-pen.  Finally I decided **** it and switched to HE and proceeded to fire two zero damage HE salvos in a row.  There was no indication of modules being knocked out and it was nearly full health, so no damage saturation.  Of course every salvo he fired set a fire or two.  Super embarrassing losing to a Pensacola...

AP can be soaked by a module.

HE can be soaked by armor and both will show a hit but do 0 damage.

So what happens when the module runs out of HP?  I never noticed one not working

It usually ends up destroyed. Like a blown up turret or wrecked torp launcher etc. Far as engines and the like, just means you can easily knock them out by sneezing on it now.

I've gotten this a lot as well, but I'm not sure it's a module because I only rarely get an incapacitation ribbon. Certainly I get the 0 dmg penetrations with no achievements whatsoever more often than 0 dmg but an incap! I could live with the latter!

Someone once suggested that these were hits to the torpedo belt? Seems like my opponents are MADE out of torpedo protection sometimes then!

Regardless of the reason, it's utterly confusing and needs a change.

Having four PENETRATIONS result in zero damage makes zero sense to me.

Create a new ribbon or something, I don't really care.... just don't call it a penetration.

I don't think AA guns and secondaries count as incapacitations.

I'd sometimes get a popup notice showing I destroyed an AA gun but no damage or other ribbons.

This has been a thing for a looong time, if you had used the damage counter on Aslain pack before there was a damage counter in game you would have likely noticed it.

Now we have the snazzy new ribbons that tell you what your shells are doing and people are noticing it...

2 patches ago I had 22 cits in 2 games just before the patch-after that I am lucky to get one per game. The ship can be full broadside and it seems hit or miss now and I can't figure out what to shoot at anymore. Last night I got one shot by one shell from 18 km away while angled. A player did almost half damage to my Tirpitz while I was head on and his shell landed next to the belt armor but didn't seem to actually get a good hit. Those shots for me are almost always bounced or get really low damage. Is the patch buggy or do I need to learn the game again? The worst part is I felt like I was finally learning the game and now it almost feels like nothing works.

I assume this is still how the damage models work, which could explain some of the zero damage hits. I think it assumes the ship is pretty badly damaged though. Given overpens always do some damage I assume the zero damage issue is usually against battleships. I haven't noticed this as much with AP, but definitely with HE. I also get a lot of zero damage HE rounds against ships with minimal superstructure like the Myogi.

What? No. The consensus is that that particular part of the ship has ran out of HP. That's why DDs can tank multiple torpedoes with their bows, etc.
