Get them to use their defensive fire -> run away -> come back and kill them

DDs rarely put DF. Only USN DDs have it. If he use it, just run and try to target other DDs instead.

Be observant of the surrounding. If there is 2 DDs and one is dodging like crazy while the other one is sailing in a straight line, attack this one instead.

You can try to make them turn into walls with one set of torps then attacking him with the second.

If you can also set him to run with the first set of torps you can cross drop with the second set to have a high chance for one hit. Bonus if he panic and turn into the first set.

You can also try your chance if the DD is getting in smoke but you have to know with some certainty where his broadside is.

Attacking the DD while hes in a knife fight with one of your own DD can also be a good way to kill him.

... etc

Try practicing in co-op, slightly easier opponents to practice the same basic technique. Also, less pressure.

I tend to watch the map closely for those little Triangle buggers to appear. Once they do, I route dive bombers if I can. I don't try to torp them. With a Tier 6 (Independence) Dive Bomber, if I can get 2 bomb hits, often that's like half the DD's HP, and that's without starting a fire.

Very often the DDs have AA switched off because they want to be sneaky. Which is great when I'm stuck in something like a Tier 8 game and bleeding fighters with every attack on a BB or cruiser. I often switch to hunting DDs instead just to extend the shelf-life of my bombers.

Another tip, look for the smoke screens. Those show up no matter what, so vector to those.

You'll have a hard time attacking those that are actively dodging, look for those that are stopped (usually in smoke or behind an island) or are harassing friendlies with their guns.

The easiest way to kill a DD is to do an auto cross drop from behind.  When positioning the TB's, you would want to have the path of the TBs to cross each other very acutely.  The only downside of this method is that the torpedoes can be out run.  However most DD's that you would be attacking would probably start to panic or be under fire resulting in them making turns.  When turning, the DD is most likely going to run into at least two if not three to four of the torpedoes.

Manual cross dropping is essentially the same in where you place the first manual drop TB in front of the DD so that when the torpedoes hit the water, the DD would be chased by torpedoes, then you could auto drop, or give about twice the lead on your torpedoes as you would a BB if you manual drop.  Other ways of doing this are to auto drop the first TB from any angle that will force a turn, then manual drop the turning DD from the "outside" area of its turning radius.  However, it is pretty useless to manual drop TB's on DD's unless you see them stop in smoke and are sure they aren't turning in any direction or unless this run aground and cannot move.

The first spoiler has the TB's with the grean path of where the torpedoes would go and the second and third one are from a replay, so the green path doesn't show, but its against a real player.

These are training room bots and training room bots like to go in straight lines and at full speed, if they aren't going in a straight line they kinda just sit there, so there are no results of the torps hitting as hitting stationary DD's doesn't really count and the other times the DD's out ran the torps.

By the first picture, the TB's had crossed the point of no return, the red arrow indicates the path he was taking and the orange indicates his new path.  The TB's slightly change the drop points, but the strike itself remains the same as seen in the other pictures, forming the crossing pattern

The Kagero was only saved through the fact he had decided to slow down and stop in smoke.  His decision was made just before the torps hit the water.  If he made the decision later, he would have taken a third torp

You could drop the torpedoes from the side on the same way as I do from the rear, however it becomes very easy to turn into the spread and will result in you scoring 1 hit at best against a full health DD, but against a DD with a damaged rudder who has last stand, you may get lucky and get two hits.

The way I drop torpedoes also works if the target turns out and has lithe torpedoes chasing them as by turning, they expose a large portion of their ship to one of the spreads of torpedoes as well as losing speed allowing the torpedoes to catch up.

Best way I kill em is with 2 torp squads keep one infront of  DD while other does a drop at starboard or port sides DD will turn to evade or outrun torps that is when the first squad you casually left in front comes into play manually drop torps just as they are catching up to dd and presto he cant turn stop or do anything but eat torps, then the most important thing to do is laugh at them after they are sittin in Davey jones locker they all cry how CV is so OP ROFL they have no idea how bad it is now lol

My suggestion has 3 parts:

1. Use dive bombers

2. Use dive bombers

3. Use dive bombers

Torpedo bombers never have much luck against DDs, because all DD players are experts at dodging torps already.

Happy hunting, Captains.

I suggest looking for Russian DDs.  T7+ and they are as slow to turn as a CG.  Rudder Shift time is 6.7+ seconds.  Before they buffed the rudder shift time in the Russian DDs it was even worse (T6 Ognevoi had 6.6s rudder shift!!),  but it makes them ripe fruit for an easy torp kill. (plus they have weak AA)
