The hype is real, my beloved Yub~Yub is back in the shop along with Sims for the next 2 weeks.

Before half of you decide to sell her, please note that she is NOT a destroyer and if you try to use her like that you will have a real bad day. She is more like an extremely agile light cruiser. Yolo~ing in will get you killed and you will be sad.

The trick is to do avoid becoming a priority target. Keep slightly behind your battleship line (so you can still provide AA support) and spam HE at any battleships. If a cruiser such as an Phoenix, Kuma, or Omaha starts to get up close, switch to AP unless it's going bow-on. If a destroyer is getting close, switch priority to him. Even without the slight buff to dispersion with the Type 0 mod, you can kill him in 4-5 hits most times.

As I have mentioned before, I stick an AA build on my Yuubari captain and keep AA survivability instead of Type 0. However, if my pitch doesn't sway you, so be it.

I wish all of you best of luck in 'Y'using Your Yuubari.

That thing is sitting in my port for the next century.

Sims would be as well, for anyone unfamiliar with basic USN DD gameplay. A very specific form of USN DD gameplay.

Yubari still needs a buff.  Badly.  She at least needs 2 hull configurations:

- One with the 6x140mm guns and 80mm AA gun, focused more on a gunship configuration.  This would let her work the support role alongside larger battleships or other light cruisers, dealing with other light cruisers and destroyers.

- Existing hull, but with at least 10km torpedoes, or more ideally, the choice between 10km torpedoes and slower traveling and slower reloading but longer-ranged 15km torpedoes (weaker damage on the 15km torps as well, for balance purposes).  This shifts her to more of a harasser role, launching torpedoes from the safety of stealth then opening up with her guns just long enough for the enemy to be distracted and hopefully hit by the torpedoes before falling back into stealth for another torpedo run.

In both cases, she cannot stealth fire, so at least being something like an oversized DD with a citadel would work.

I'm about to purchase her and look forward to playing your namesake :) more so then Sims for whatever reason.

I like quirky ships and this one fits the bill.

Not a bad first outing in the Yubari....I kind of like it.

I think as more people are playing it, the mythical OP of these ships will decline...

don't think I have ever heard anyone claim Yubari as being OP.

Iwaki maybe...

Last few times I played before the sale there were accusations of hax and OP thrown around.  Anytime I get more than 2kills in the Iwaki "OP cheater ship" has been mentioned.

I would argue that *any* ship who's torp firing arc requires you to go completely broadside to launch is in fact, the opposite of OP....  Iwaki has amazingly versatile gun arrangement though for sure....can always put shots on target with that thing.  1v1 any BB in either ship is a joy and a guaranteed kill though.  RIP straight sailing BB's.

They did better with the guns, torps are still a problem. Also 1 DF stock, that's just silly, needs to be unlimited like Atlanta. Biggest buff they could give the ship, remove the citadel like DDs.

I'm just amused that they have the wrong picture on the shop page for the Yubari. They have the "Super Yubari" pictured not Yubari

Got the Yubari, she going to be more of a fleet escort for me running in Divs having DF and Good aim to screen DDs and some unlucky cruisers

I'm having loads of fun with her, though she is undeniably weak. I'm only really having fun in her cause noob BBs let me 3 shot them with my torps, and no one focus fires me. Her shells seem a bit lofty for an IJN CL, but that could just be me.

Yubaris love company, or more specifically meatshields. She absolutely cannot be the one being the focus of fire by people with decent aim, or she will die very quickly. More than any other ship that I own, I find that Yubari is best played as support. Helping an early DD push into a cap, shooting an enemy which is already distracted by a friendly. Whatever it is, it really helps if there's are allies nearby who are seen as more threatening.

To be fair can anything other than a BB tank? Even then, a BB with 3 deck fires isn't going to be a BB for much longer. And yes I understand Yubari is extra fragile, just making a point though.

Myoko and Atago can tank while almost bow on to the shooter, with just a bit of angling.  I've had games where pissed off battleship players of the same tier as the cruiser complained about the OP'ness of Myoko and Atago just from tanking full broadsides while I approached them with near impunity.

Same goes for Balti and DM; they have really good angling armor.

Sure against another cruiser. Against a BB, might be able to stave off Citadel hits for the most part, but BB can still rip it's face off for good chunks of health.

I beg to differ, 14" shells cit me from the front sometimes, 16" shells all the time.
