You have to wonder where the US is headed with its budget woes.  The deficit spending cannot continue at the current rate or we may be forced into a similar situation with some our Allies.

This might not work out since both nations have different geopolitical interests and goals. Plus chains of command for this venture are seperate with with both the British and French carriers being under their domestic command (British vessels only taking orders from RN officers). Now add that the French naval aircraft can't operate from the RN carriers (current Invincible class and future Queen Elizabeth class) and the RN's F-35 can't operate from the French CV.

the french are  babbling as usual....
Queen Elizabeth in 2016 and Prince of Wales in 2018. according to present plans.
QE will probably still lack airplanes for some years as I doubt that the F35 will be ready by 2016 though...

I don't think it's a smart idea at all.

As one suggested, there is the geopolitical factor, but there is more than that.  Concepts of operation and aircraft missions and potentials are different, and I'm not even approaching the nuclear capability of both nations.

But even more importantly than that, French sailors being served British food!  "MUTINY..." :Smile_izmena:

Unfortunately this idea is made by higher ups.  The whole problem with the idea is that Britian and France use different methods for the launch and recovery of aircraft.  Up until the end of last year this would have been possible but Britian reversed course again and decided to go with the F35B and a CTOL version as they did want to pay the added expense for the US EMALS system.  Since France uses the CATOBAR system like the US there is no way that the two can share a carrier.

this wont be happening, for a start britain is buying the VTOL version of the F-35 and France uses Cat & Trap aircraft. This news is rather out of date...

On this note I feel like agreeing :)

But as said above don't see it happening to many differences.

It would have been like this 200 years ago, but today you'd think the British would actually enjoy new food, then again maybe I'm wrong.

As much as I love my British friends, you can't put "British" and "food" in the same sentence.

While both are under construction, the fate of HMS Prine Of Wales is currently unclear. The financial problems in the UK has already gutted alot of the defence budget, but further cuts to defence are very likely on the way. The brits have come up with a few options for the Prine Of Wales. Keep the vessel at "extended readiness", reduce her capabilities even further to save on cost, sell the ship to a foreign nation, or scrap the ship. The final descision on her fate will be in the next defence review in 2015.

Ok first i love heard an american say "British and France suffer budget woes", when america is the most indebted country in the world! What a joke! Second, to the guys saying the french are babbling as usual, the french have got their own planes, a lot more powerfully armed and a lot more agile than the amasing crappy single engine plane F35 that the english "want" from a country which collapses to believe otherwise fesant and that all stupid americans think they are the first economy in the world... France with his army don't stay at the boots of anyone unlike many countries remain dependent on US armements and their prices... So who is babbling?! What is certain is that if the U.S. economy continued like that the "great American army" will not be what is what.

We already know it wont be happening. The idea never really got far by all accounts, it wasnt viable for a number of logistical reasons.

For example, we wont want to see QE under a white flag running away from the enemy.... Or getting sunk in port....

As for the fate of PoW, it is going ahead and will be named Ark Royal instead.

Hmmm...

http://www.aircraftc...beth-class.aspx
http://www.royalnavy...Elizabeth-Class

Official websites are still calling the second ship Prince of Wales, Google draws up a blank, and I haven't heard anything about a name change in the news despite living in Britain. Unless there is a credible source which proves otherwise, it's still called Prince of Wales.
