  1. 1. Optimal formation starting with the one in the front line?

Anyone cares to elaborate on the choice of DD, BB, CA? That kind of composition will surely lose to DD, CA, BB imo.

DD,BB,CA would work in my opinion due to the BBs being close enough to be in optimal range of the CAs and cruisers being in range to provide fire support even with their shorter range.

That is pretty valid point when there are no DDs.

The thing is, at game start, due to speed difference, DDs will be in the front, and will meet enemy DDs, while BBs lag behind and cannot provide consistent support. Now if CA are matching the speed of BBs to follow them, they won't be in range to provide support consistently neither. This translates into a unfavorable early engage of your DDs vs enemy team's DDs+CAs (assuming they use the DD, CA, BB formation).

In short, if CA stays behind BBs, they will never be able to hunt DDs effectively, meaning a single DD can wreck your whole fleet once your front line crumbles.

You don't have to have cruisers screening the battleships, destroyers are already doing that.  The cruisers merely need to be in range to contribute damage to cruisers/battleships, while focus-firing any enemy destroyers that are lit.  Moving up into radar/hydro range when safe to do so is fine.  Having battleships ahead of cruisers (even if only by a small margin) makes them more tempting targets for undisciplined players, so your battleships can shrug off some damage while your cruisers stay alive longer.

Cruisers that are the closest spotted targets are often dead cruisers.

Destroyers first about 3-4 KM ahead of Cruisers... Cruiser 2-3 KM ahead of Battleships. Carrier just stays hidden.

Destroyers first line of spotting torps, other destroyers and planes... Cruiser cover fire for destroyer both AA, other Destroyers and additional torp spotting. Battleship use to kill cruisers and other battleships. Cruiser first though depending on range and how squirrely they are.
