I got away from N.C this weekend to take control of Iowa for the first time.  My first five games were horrible lol.  Mostly because It took some time to adjust my lead and get used to the extra speed and long turning time.  But after that I got on track and things came together.  My only question to seasoned Iowa players is the AA didnt do as well as I had thought.  So should I take the AA effectivness module instead of decreased dispersion?

I am not an Iowa player, but I am guessing you are still on stock hull.  That MIGHT be the issue.

I fit mine out for AA, the dispersion isn't too bad for me. But for your AA problem, I assume it's because you're still on the stock hull.

To have the full might of the Iowa's AA, you need to fully upgrade and mod it as well as have a 15+ point captain specced for anti-air.

IIRC the Iowa with an AA load out is 99 rating with the C hull. This includes using module slots. It used to shred planes but now I would honestly focus on making your main guns as effective as possible. Bow fighting in high tiers wins games in that type of ship, the more effective your main battery the more effective you are in general. Besides if you find yourself in a double CV game you can most like get an AA boat to sit around a BB cluster.

If you have to AA spec, just take AFT and use modules. AFT will makes your 127's effective against DD's. Get BFT after.

Well so far I feel very comfortable playing the Iowa it has that feel to it like it will be a beast of a ship.  I think part of it is just seeing higher tier CV's more and better CV captains.  The N.C did ok if my escorts died and I found myself dealing with planes alone.  Ill just have to adjust a little bit to the better CV captains and there superior planes.

Should I run the combination of AFT and Manual AA or is that a bit of overkill

I would run both

I did something in the Iowa that I was never able to do in the N.C that impressed me.  I spotted a Amagi broadside 17km out and fired one turret at a time.  Resulting in a citadel another citadel and yep another citadel for a kill.  Didnt take much skill but the guns didnt fail me on such a easy target for once.

I ran the first two slots AA and then I did the dispersion. I loved my Iowa so much I kept it after I bought my Montana. I even decided to run a new captain on the Montana which was dumb is some respects, but I don't regret it. I love my Montana more than my Iowa because of the 4th turret. She is a beast once you learn the Iowa and Montana
