Random Battle Fleet Commander

Normally, in sea battles there is a Fleet Commander and a battle plan already determined for the area of contention (the map).

Thing is, in WoWS the fleets are randomly made up and the map is also randomly determined.

There is also not much time at the beginning of the battle to discuss a plan of action.

Hence, a 'convention' or two ought to be adopted by WoWS players .......

For instance, the top listed BB ought to have 'command' of the battle. I suggest the top listed (senior) BB since they aren't CVs with their plane loads to deal with.

By 'command' I mean the senior BB should say things like - 'Take A & B', 'lets push East side', 'DDs concentrate at F5', 'BBs form up near island D6 & move SW' or some such general order.

My point here is there should be a recognized convention as to who on the random team is the 'commander', who is giving some 'direction'.

Obviously, this idea won't always work since players tend to yolo and do what they want to anyway.

However, there should be some general conventions used in random battles that the players who want some teamwork might begin adopting.

This is my suggestion - I actually try to 'team up' when I play.

Senior BB commander? You mean that guy camping in the back, sniping from 20km, not hitting anything?

That guy?

The guy that when he finally does move up, refuses to enter the enemy cap circle because he might get his paint scratched?

That guy?

The one who sails along in a straight line for 5 minutes and eats a bunch of torps and dies? Then posts 5 anti-torpedo posts on the forums?

That guy?

I don't trust most people to understand how to win a game in their own ship, let alone bossing around 11 others.  I'll pass.

I like it. +1

"The aethervox experiment" to get experienced players in the habit of coordinating a teams battleplan.

Might as well go troll in Battlefield 4 as the Battle Commander there... have fun trying to get this to work.  :P It's not a bad idea, but when you put a random, incompetent commander in, a lot of the good players will get angry/annoyed/frustrated/bad feelings in general.

I've actually had great luck commanding my team in my ARP Kongo.  Whenever I'm in my ARP Kongo and I start giving orders, 90% of the time half the team will asist me and go after what I ask.  It's AWSOME! :)

And I don't sit in the back, I'm always on the front lines in my Kongo using my armor angling to my advantage.  You can't just bark orders when your sitting in the back, it never works.

I get the OCCASIONAL good team that actually works together. Sometimes I've tried commanding and they end up doing a stupid thing that costs us the game. It's luck-based game on getting smart players.

This^

If it was the player with the highest winrate, then maybe, but just having the top ship in the battle is not sufficient

No amount of stats or tier of ship makes a good commander, the obvious thing here is that OP has most likely never commanded anything in the real world.

I too try and team up , but even the lowly DD might have a better plan than the Top tier BB. As it is I have seen BBs sail next to an island get sunk and start screaming how they were not support.

I am a team player but I have a low win rate and am usually discounted yet I have 20 years of sea time, 25 years of professional maritime history and have worked 6 of those years with the American Navy and Air Force.

Please god NO general commander rule in game

Top listed BB?? you gotta be joking . It should be more like someone whom is experienced and can take command of the battlefield. Not someone who is leading the charge from behind.

Instead of shouting commands, why not just give the highest experienced person the ability to draw circles and arrows on the map that can be viewed by other teammates. Also, they could be allowed to "group" units into a Battle Group like in an RTS and it immediately allows a new chat channel that only those people can talk in.

you can choose to ignore the commands, or listen. And you can use your Battle Group chat channel or not.

Also, if the highest ranked person doesn't want to do it, they can just "Pass" the duty onto someone else before the game starts.

The match maker could identify the "best" captain using a combo of games played / win rate / average damage and place a star next to them in the load screen (that can only be seen by teammates not the other team).  Not that anyone has to listen but at least you know you are getting tactical advice from someone with a clue.

Whenever a team actually does try and work out a plan without a leader you can easily lose too much time trying to organize that you hurt yourselves on certain maps.

Agree that BB should be the flagship but they are as guilty at playing selfishly as any other class.  Never understood why CV doesn't at least tell the team what they is planning to do.

A related note - what you really need to know is who is gonna fight, who is gonna run and who is just out to pad their stats.  I would rather know that then which base you are going to cap first.

well why not a game mod about it, you know a random player is the "Flag Ship" of the group and if he dies the game is over (though I get the idea on Steel Ocean :teethhappy: looks cool to me though)
