...In the context of the Cyclone. That's when I first experienced the bug where the names stopped appearing above players' ships. It was honestly exhilarating having to peer through the fog to make out ship features and cross-reference that to my team list to identify friend or foe. Since my mini-map was still working I was able to use ships' proximity to landmarks as well. It made the cyclone dynamic seem that much more real. I know this could never be implemented in the game, but it was fun while it lasted.

This is precisely what I suggested to WG back in Feb. When one of the dev's asked me some question and offered suggestions, I didn't whine about the bug...in fact I praised it.  It forced me to think about ship details from memory...gauging speeds from smoke trails...it made for a much cleaner viewing and experience.  My minimap worked just fine.  This is the way WoWs should've been constructed-

A map showing you pertinent information you need to survive-

Ship ID's could be found only if zoomed in near max-

I have always hated (and I mean loathed) the information clutter WG puts on their battle grounds/seas

The Fog of War principle would double their player base. Its the guessing that is the most fun-

Having all of the information just given to us- well.....yawn!

I loved not having the names over enemies, I ended up accidentally showing my full broadside to a yammy yesterday at 10km, because I didn't see him.. Needless to say I got deleted. But it was fun

Had no issue hitting dds over 11km without the names/icons either, not sure what everyone else's problem was.  Ships still move the same

I see no fun in getting iced during a cyclone event...and I was quite frustrated being unable to properly target a pesky little DD during the reduced vision time.  But I guess I'll adapt...

Every time I read " fog of war " I wonder if WG has ever, for any of it's games, presented them as anything other than an arcade game.  Fog of war and no IFF tags would be more realistic ?  Realism isn't what WoWs is about, it's about entertainment.

"This is the way WoWs should've been constructed...."  No. It could have been constructed more like SIM but it wasn't as that was never it's aim.  It is a mystery why people who want a SIM choose to play an arcade game and lament that it is too much of an arcade game.  :hmm:

Wait... you mean those HP numbers aren't real???  I've been telling all my friends the Yamato had 96,000 health in real life...

UI bug has introduced a new game mode for World of Warships.  Hardcore mode.  I'd play it.  I actually enjoyed sailing around in my Budyonny last night with no Over target marker or distance.  Took me a bit to find the target on my map and when I came around an island on a BB with no distance marker to know if my Torps would hit made it quite a bit more satisfying lol

Was interesting getting shot by enemy and friendly ships while knife fighting in a capture point because my teammates didn't know which ship was the friendly one. Because a Faragut and a Gremmy look Sooooo similar...

I had it happen once last night and I felt like Willis A Lee in the USS Washington trying to figure out which big radar target was the South Dakota which had lost all electrical power and which was a Japanese BB. It would actually make an interesting battle type with each team having different countries ships to make identification easier.

Thank you vonkaiser!! That's just it. Why not a hard core variant of the game. And think of the contests people race to join...contests that were only hard core. How about tiers 1-3 get the rookie info...tiers 4-7 adjust players to decreased info displays. Tiers 8-10...welcome to the major league of warship

do you know of any naval sims today? What's wrong with a hard core variant of this game? You don't think hard core lack of information would be entertaining? Stay away from card games...for your own safety.

Yeah, I have been known to spend my games with the GUI turned off, only occasionally turning it on to check allied positions and then off again. It makes for an even cooler experience.

I always said 2 mods that I want to make are a minimalists GUI and a proper RTS control scheme. I guess it's time to start looking into acting on this, now that we have had the file system reshuffle

This wasn't a glitch, WG was testing out realistic battles.

Your condescension about card games aside, no I don't know of any recent naval sims (probably because most game studios know they can't make a decent monetary return on one).   You ignored my point which was that it ISNT a sim.  The OP was suggesting it should have been more SIM like to begin with and it was never meant to be one.

Given how much trouble the average player in Randoms seems to have with the information already in front of them, it would be exponentially worse for them without it. The idea of a hard core mode with no UI info, no map info isn't terrible if it was a speciality mode for Team play.  A dedicated team could make it work and it could be challenging. For the rest of the game as is it would be awful.

I think it would be a fun dynamic in certain maps and game modes, but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

One of the problems in the night battles of the Solomon Islands was identifying friend or foe.

Of course, they'd have to address the TK system first....
