I really enjoyed playing the Isokaze and Minekaze - until last night. Couldn't hit a darned thing if I stayed out of detection range. I thought I'd lost my touch but have been reading that torps got nerfed by increasing detection range. The new version release notes do NOT say anything about the torps on the Mine & Iso but it sure seems like ships - even slow turning BBs - are dodging better.

Am I imagining this or did detection range go up for torps across the board?

Seemed to affect Kuma as well but I don't play her as much so am uncertain.

Ah, your torps are good.

Patch notes 0.5.5: http://worldofwarships.com/en/news/common/055-update-notes/

As a partial solution to the 'torpedo grid' problem, we increased the spotting range of Type 93 model 1 and model 3 torpedoes 2.5km and 1.9km, respectively. The range of Type 93 model 3 torpedoes has been reduced from 15km to 12km, and the speed of the model 1 torpedoes was reduced from 67kts to 62kts.
We want to make it easier for all players to avoid being hit by randomly launched long-range torpedoes.

You're imagining it.

You can't always just drop on the grey line and expect to hit, some people turn. More people start turning as you get higher in tier.

Sometimes you will swear Spiderman is on the other end of the connection. The enemy ship will change course as if they spotted the torpedoes coming five kilometers out despite no means to do so. Sometimes a ship coincidentally turned because of other factors. Sometimes there was a stealthed DD that warned them. Other times the enemy ship will spot you, shoot at you, and STILL eat the entire load of torpedoes fired at the lead indicator.

Battleships may rely on RNG, but destroyers & torpedoes rely on something even more unpredictable: human behavior.

I clearly said that I read the release notes and that they didn't appear to apply to my torpedoes.

My question is did WOWS change the detection range on my torpedoes despite what the release notes say?

Lunarrise - I totally get the spider sense metaphor.  I don't drive a BB often, but when I do I'm always trying to think like the DD captain I can't see yet.  Ditto when I'm driving my Murmansk in full DD-hunter mode.

 You've been answered.

No. They didn't. For one thing, if you only noticed it yesterday, but there wasn't a patch yesterday, how could files have been altered and distributed to everyone without patching?

Nothing changed. You're just having a bad day. We all have them.

Maybe players are getting more aware of torps.

I definitely was having a bad session in the game when I made the original post.

This afternoon was much better.  Sank a Nicholas, a St. Louis and a Myogi.  Despite losing the battle and getting sunk near the end, it was lots of fun.
