This was the Mahan's maiden voyage in its stock configuration. I can't tell if the Mahan is really that good or if WG goes easy on you when it's your first time. I played a lot in the Nicholas, didn't not like the Farragut but the Mahan is such a good boat. That torp arrangement is so useful and has saved my bacon many times. I still run her and plan to keep the Mahan in port but like a lot of people say the Benson is epic good. Too slow to outrun a lot of cruisers, too big to avoid hits from BBs, too detectable to scout or cap, guns are suitable only for knife-fights, but it's a big target, and, again, it's really detectable. I can't understand how anyone does well with that ship. I know I'm not the best DD runner out there, but I am not terrible (somewhere in between the two extremes), so you guys who do well with the Mahan must know something that I don't! I was absolute shi-ite in the Mahan. I didn't find any measure of success with the Mahan until I went with the long range torps and the C hull. The greater manoeverability really helps in upper-tier games, and the torps are great for pushing the enemy away from the cap, or confining them to a zone. The Benson, however, is a delight. Just so much fun. It's like getting the Nicholas all over again. You absolutely own the maps with concentrations of small islands, and any other DD that is not the Kiev is very fightable (even the Gearing). The Mahan is dead.
