Started playing some again after 6 months of being gone.

Currently i have Bogue.. and 1.5k till the T6 IJN

Basically, since i have been gone awhile, where do CV's stand ?  or rather what are their strengths compared to eachother.

I'm assuming

USN - Better at Air vs Air

IJN Better at strike

and are the USN planes much more durable ?

In short.. at T6-7-8-9-10.. Which is the better line per tier ?

When played properly IJN is superior in both categories.

They are also better in team battles for t6 and t8 although NA does not have t8 team battles yet.

the balance at t6/7 was just undone by Saipan which when played properly can destroy the Hiryu in a match

If both players are very good, the US carrier will win out almost every time barring any RNG in fighter engagements. IJN carriers took a huge blow to the jaws with the addition of barrages, not to mention the US aircraft have a bad habit of being anatomically, as well as numerically, stronger and faster.

People are all over the place with this. IMO, IJN is superior in the air superiority role while USN is better at the anti-ship role.

You're talking CV versus CV there.. Which the USN still wins if fighter loadout. But as far as overall damage potential, IJN wins with the exception of T4. The fact that they gimped USN loadouts so that you have literally zero options for a strike package (No fighters? Seriously?) until T9 is more than a little Bravo Sierra.

I think you got your navies backwards.

Its not as clear as a nation is good at one thing, IJN is great all around good strike and good AS with its loadouts but harder to control then a USN CV. USN CVs are either AS or Strike there is no middle ground until tier 9 as the 1/1/1 doesn't work at T7 and T8, AS is only good at high tiers if you learn to strafe and strike is dominating but only if you know how to avoid fighters and manual drop.

USN have the easiest, low skill, but effective air superiority and the most difficult, demanding, but best strike capability.

IJN have difficult, micro-heavy AS loadouts what will beat an average USN AS player if played right

And they have pretty nice balanced loadouts that don't quite match up with the USN's strike but have fighters to make up for that

Well OP, it's a yes and no on both of those nations.

For now, the USN do far better at strike and AS loadouts.

Meanwhile the IJN CVs do best at the balanced loadouts.

USN or IJN are equal when your teams are completely crap!

My Hiryuu is facing what happened to my Indie - horrible teams.  Can't hit anything reliably because CAs are everywhere with the "on track!" event.  The enemy team is moving in a nice ball of AA coverage.  enemy BBs dodge torpedos like they're supposed to.  Losing because team doesn't know how to cap points.  Or the team chases 1 dd into the corner of the map and leave me to die.  And allies are unable to pick off CAs so that I have openings to actually strike through.

/me flips table

10% winrate hiryuu.  And it's not like I don't know how to high tier CV.  I have a Saipan and it's "supposedly worse" than the IJN CV.

AS = air superiority

Carrier that bring more fighters into battle, at the expense of bombers.

Strike is the opposite, more bombers

Above all US Ships (not only CVs), Bogue is by far the most bored Ship. Once you passed Bogue, all what comes is good and better and better.

  • Independence will tech you how to use your planes.
  • Ranger will teach you how to use the ship. How to locate her and how to work with the team for AA and project power
  • Lexington top of the top. Real threat even against higher tier ships (Yamatos and Montanas)
  • Essex has a problem. Can be sniped no matter if is AS loaded. I have too see how it goes after the next patch
  • Midway. I dont know. and I think I wont.
  • Saipan was not interesiting to me since I prefer Strike loadout instead AS

Every US CV matches IJN CVs except Tahio which has 3 torp bomber squads.

My perception is:

  • US CVs are rougher.
  • IJN allow more elaborate tactics
