Serious question on the Atlanta

Has anyone noticed that the main AA guns (long range) are the same as the Main battery guns?

 

I guess what I am asking is, how is it that, when im shooting at other ships, those same guns are shooting at planes at the same time?

 

Or maybe I got this wrong?

They're DP guns, they shoot at planes as your shooting other ships. Works the same way as DP guns on DDs.

So i guess in reality the Atlanta had to decide whether to shoot at planes or fire back at the enemy ship in real battles..

Maximum range you can get the 127 AA fully specced out is 7.2 km. I'd know how I have the ship set up.

There would have been almost no times in the whole war where there were air and surface targets present for an Atlanta Class to choose between.
