A crosspost from himmelsdorf found here - http://www.himmelsdorf.com/wargaming-ru-offered-a-selected-few-wot-long-term-players-a-million-freexp-for-wows/

I thought this was extremely interesting. And also scary for the game. A reminder that a few players by their definition is (A few hundred)

RU Community Manager Vallter_ revealed that there is another experiment going on on the RU Server.

A very few selected experienced WoT players are getting 1 million free exp plus a good stockpile of credits to use in WoWs. Some players on the RU Forums started to question Wargamings’ logic. They don’t want to sell the Saipan to everyone because inexperienced players would harm other players’ game experience while that same time they’re handing so much FreeXP and Credits away that people could just rush to Tier 8 or 9 CV.

Vallter_  responds that this offer will only concern a handful of people (several hundreds at most) and among those, only a dozen would directly buy a tier 9 or 10 CV (or they could not do that at all).

It is an experimental offer which goal is to see how the players who are tired of grinding react to it, players who fought tens of thousands of battles. This offer was send to a handful of players as part of the experiment. If it’s conclusive, they will expand the offer to more players. And tank players won’t be the only ones receiving it.

The first reactions were… less positive than Wargaming probably hoped for. Not only do WoWs captains on the RU forums continue to voice their opinion of how bad an idea this is, there’s also a few threads where people complain about teamkilling done by some of those few chosen. In this case here, someone used the FreeXP to get himself an Ibuki and went on to kill half his team (apparently without turning pink) while stating that he didn’t intend to keep playing WoWs anyway.

Call me crazy but it looks like WG is very interested in getting people to play high tier ships. Between this and the reduced repair cost test they are going to run over here.

Maybe it's to test how players would spend shared gold/free xp if full account unification gets implemented.

Well, you don't know how something will turn out until you try. At least they're trying.

Sounds like it's time for the next idea though.

Hopefully this shuts up the "unify free XP and credits" crowd.

You mean gold. Not like I care about my 8 million credits in WoT (a tier 10 costs 6.5 million there) becoming nearly worthless in WoWs (where it costs 20+ million for a tier 10)

I think this idea would be a very bad mistake, it does not matter how long they have been playing WOT or how they good at playing tanks, when they come here to WOW they are no different than any other newbie and for them to have the advantage of possibly going straight up to tier 9/10 because they were given a hand out of free xp, how is this advantageous to the player base that has fought and earned and learned their way up through the ranks, its not.  Its no different than any other joe blow coming in off the street and buying a tier 8 through the premium shop and starts playing, we all know how well that sits with the player base.

I agree.  I am just happy to see WG really trying (anyway possible) to get the high tiers up and running good.

At least in the case of Joe Blow he is contributing to the future of the game in the form of money.

If they want more ppl to play t10, they just have to put some T9-10 ships in ppl's ports and make it 0-0-0 earn games (for given ships) like the Pokeboats.

You'll have tons of T9-10 dishing it out, ruffling some feathers having fun, and perfect to gather 10x the data in one week-end.

No need to damage the game with PERMANENT t10 newbs.  But every now and then on a week-end, why not ?

It gives ppl like me that don't have a lot of time the perfect opportunity to "try" which of the t10 ships I like more and adjust my slow grinding accordingly.

IMHO.

I would argue that the key difference between this offer and unification is those "offered" the free xp did not earn it in any of the titles- it was a freebie. This free xp that was spendable only in WoWS was used differently than it might otherwise have been. Different customers will have different behavior too. If you play all three games, you will likely have a large pot of free xp if the games are unified. I'm in favor of unified free xp/gold. However, I pretty much only use that xp to avoid a painful stock grind of certain vehicles, not for skipping the whole vehicle itself. Maybe this is not the norm of how most would spend though.

Leave the WoTs guys alone. If they want test something like that, then give that to the Alpha and Close Beta Testers (at least a few one) who really know "what i will do with this exp and credits", also, to the few new guys from OBT/Release who at this time know how the game works.

It's a smart move if the intention is to move players to higher tiers faster.  No one likes playing low tiers, typically the ones who do are stat padders who use OP vehicles to engage in seal clubbing. Everyone wants to rush to end game. This is the case in every game out there, no one wants to be stuck in the beginner areas - even if they don't know how to play - they will want to rush. This is why you see tier 10s in WoT with only 1k battles under their belt when the average requirement for tier 10 is actually around 3k battles depending on your XP rates.

WG simply needs to significantly nerf all required XP before tier 8, problem solved. They don't need to give anything out, just reduce the amount of credits and XP that lower tiers require so that players can reach higher faster. Playing lower tiers should be a choice, not an requirement, by making it a requirement, many players become discouraged by the grind and simply leave.
