For whatever reason, i never believed that the HE and AP on the Yorck had such a different time to get to target until i bought one. Stock, it takes about~10.5 seconds to travel ~15.5km with HE and ~14.5 seconds to travel the same distance with AP.

Now I'm wondering, which other ships have a noticeable difference between HE and AP travel times. If there aren't any with a noticeable difference, are there any ships with any difference between shell velocities?

I think a friend of mine mentioned Aurora had one. Ships that do have this difference is very rare. Reason Yorck does is because it has WW2 HE and WW1 AP iirc.

Aurora has totally different ranges between AP and HE.

Cleveland is a fun case. The HE is faster at the muzzle, but AP will reach max range about a second faster due to lower drag.

Yorck is the most noticeable. The rest of the ships might sometimes have a marginal difference

I wonder why Japanese BB's HE shells are abysmally slower than APs?

410mm HE is a 80kg lighter shell launched at the same muzzle velocity, so it doesn't retain velocity as well as AP.

Gremyashchy has a noticeable difference in velocity with it's HE - AP shells. HE is a lot slower

I see. Not only lighter projectile loses momentum fast, but also more susceptible to turbulent drag that cause the instability of its trajectory, yes?

USN cruisers tend to have different AP/HE speeds but its more subtle.

Pensacola - New Orleans :  The AP tends to travel fast and flat, with great penetration, but the HE has a slower flight and a higher arc.  Both 118kg shells, AP shoots at 853mps, the HE shell shoots at 823mps.

Baltimore - Des Moines:  AP has a slower more arced travel; HE has a faster, flatter flight but has a lighter shell.  AP shell weighs at 152kg but shoots at 762mps, the HE shell weighs at 118kg but shoots at 823mps.

Cleveland - HE has a faster initial flight than AP, but over on longer distances, AP has a faster flight due to heavier shell.  HE weighs at 59kg and shoots at 762mps, the HE shell weighs at 48kg and shoots at 812 mps.
