Hello all...I am almost 2k games in, mostly in Cruisers. Still haven't got my first tier 10 ship, but I am close to getting the Hindenberg. But I have run into what feels like a brick wall.

For about the past 2 months, I've basically had almost no fun at all playing. Unfortunately, I am addicted, and unable to quit playing this infuriating game. I've take a week off at a time to try and reset my slump, but to no avail. I may have an occasional fun game, where I contribute to the team, survive, and win...but most days I don't. As for a fun day? Maybe one every couple of weeks...always followed by a crushingly bad day.

Most games fall into 2 categories...either I am useless and die early. Those games I win about 30 or 40 percent. Then, when I do well, like get a couple of kills, or do a lot to achieve a win, I swear I end up losing 95 percent. I've had losing streaks of 8, 9, or even 10 in a row at least half a dozen times.

I'd love to hear if anyone out there has had similar slumps...and if so, how the heck you got out of them.

One thing...I'm basically done spending real money to convert XP all the time. I am only playing non-premium ships. WoWs needs to give out WAY MORE GOLD than they do, or make everything in the game purchaseable with in game currency. IMHO

What tier do you like to play?

you might want to watch some vid on youtube to see how you can get better. The grind is steep but changing your style will help.

It's actually fairly common for middle-of-the-pack players to lose in their best games. Those tend to be the games where you get a bad team against another almost-as-bad team. You're able to rack up a lot of damage, but you have to carry the team pretty hard to win those.

It sounds to me like you need more practice reading the early-game in your matches. The sooner you recognize which type of game you're in, the better you can respond to it. Play cautiously in a route rout, you'll get nothing. Play aggressively when your team is routed, you'll sink quickly. And so on.

Your damage per battle is pretty low unless you mostly play Tiers 1-4.  Which is why your ships destroyed per battle is so low.  If you are playing German Cruisers alot you need to stay at long range and never be alone.

Watching some of the videos on YouTube will help.  Pick one thing that you see on those that you should change, and stick with it.  For example, I am very aggressive (not good if you are a German CA driver) so when I started with the Russian CA's I was beaten up and losing hope.  Then a player said "play it like a BB" and since then I have been doing decent in it.  Just remember that bad habits are HARD TO BREAK, but with some help and determination I think you will see some improvement.  Good luck, and take 1 battle at a time.

I think the biggest issue you have is your hit ratio.  I am an average player at best and one of my worst statistics is survival ratio so I know where my problems are.  Looking at your stats, bear in mind I too play more cruisers than other types,  I think your hit low hit ratio means you do on average less damage per amount of time in game and therefore contribute less than you could to your team winning.

You could try concentrating for a while on specific ships rather than grinding lines to progress.  More familiarity with specific ships might lead to better hit ratios, more damage, and more wins.  I have realized I don't really like the high tier ( 9/10 ) meta of long distance sniping/invisi firing/ torp wall-o-doom and play more often at tiers where I find there is more variety in the types of engagement.  So my suggestion is this.... rebuy and play either Nurn or Konig and work on getting familiar with their guns and aiming.  Both have quite accurate and effective main gun systems, that will allow you to get better at aiming.

I think stopping grinding up tiers and playing middle tiers for a while will see you get better at accuracy > thereby more damage per game > thereby more contribution to the team > more wins !  :red_button:

That's my 2 cents.

Looked at your stats. Three critical opportunities to improve and grind much faster:

  1. Hit ratio needs to be raised at least 4% points. You're either suffering from slow internet/fps which is the player's responsibility to improve or just not paying attention enough to player behavior and anticipating turns and speed changes. For example when an enemy hits an island you should expect them to reverse course immediately since their speed upon impact immediately hits zero. So your next volley should already be aimed behind his current position.
  2. Your battle survived ratio is too low. Should be closer to 45-50% depending on play style. This likely means you are too aggressive and dying too early causing you to miss out on more xp/money, but more importantly staying around to turn more losses into wins which is where the real bonus is. This aggression is compounded further by playing squishy German glass cannons.
  3. You have zero games played in carriers and nearly that much in BBs. You are placing a substantial and completely unnecessary ceiling on your skill level by refusing to have a balanced history of playing and experiencing all 4 classes. It is an undeniable fact that first hand and THOROUGH experience (not just knowledge) of all classes is critical to breaking into and deeply above the 50% win rate mark. You learn how they think, how they process information, respond to threats and the environment, and their strengths and weaknesses. If you are thinking, "I already know that, I don't need to play them," toss that conversation in the trash.

Hope these points help you and good luck.

I would suggest you play in some divisions with friends. It definitely helps with having fun for me and if you don't already have friends in warships maybe think about joining a clan.

Wow...I was thinking I might hear from folks with similar feelings...and maybe a few ridiculing me, but I really never expected so much actual advice.

Thank you all for taking the time to look at my situation and provide constructive advice. I will definitely be thinking about this stuff, and trying to integrate your advice into my play. As already stated, I am incapable of quitting WoWs, so I am required to find way to improve.

Many Thanks,

brudnick the Noob ;-)

....

I have rough patches of games quite a bit.  Had one before bed last night where I couldn't do well in a BB to save my life.

Just try to focus on your consistency.  Set performance goals, play in support of the team but not at your own cost(in randoms), do your best to have fun even in those rough matches and have a good attitude.

We may have a lot of the same people as Tanks but we are not Tanks. Have you taken a look at the tutorial videos created by iChase? Those are the ones that helped me improve. Watching how other people play on Twitch can help you see how other people deal with certain situations (Primmrose is pretty good cruiser main). The last thing that helped me grow was to stream a little myself, getting feedback from my viewers.

I do watch WoWs videos on YouTube. I subscribe to iChase, Jingles, and at least a dozen other gamer channels. But now that folks mention it, and you say iChase is one of the best for learning, I will go back and take a more in depth look at those instructionals of his.

@Brudnick I completely understand what your talking about, what I would do is play co-op for a bit to hone your basic skills, like aiming and moving, paying attention to the map to see where you should go. Situation awareness is key, you may get tunnel vision while firing on a target, this is a hard habit to break, we get so intent on killing a target that you don't notice the DD launching torps at you. Co-op may give you less and it may be bots you play against but if you don't hone your basic skills your play won't improve, good luck:)

...And, even though I lost 11 in a row the other day (ouch)...I actually feel a bit MORE optimistic about the game.

Now...if WoWs would just include fun things like destructible land targets, and perhaps some historical CoOp battles, maybe the fun would be LESS determined merely by how well I do personally.

A couple more things that haven't been mentioned yet (I think, just skimmed through responses):

Enable replays and watch them to see what you could've done better. I.e. maybe you went to the wrong flank, overextended, exposed your broadside to a BB you were not paying attention to, got ambushed by a DD, etc. All that stuff is easier to spot when you're just watching - less stressful than actually playing. If you notice a pattern of you doing something specific every time that tends to get you killed, you'll know what to work on.

Your accuracy needs a bit of improvement, but there are two possible issues to work on there. One is that you're taking shots at the right targets, but not aiming correctly and need to practice actual aiming (leading a maneuvering target). Another is that you are aiming correctly, but taking shots at difficult targets instead of easier ones (due to tunnel vision or something along those lines) - need to work on situational awareness in this case.

Just my $0.02. :honoring:

Lots of good advice in here for your situation. As was mentioned divisioning can greatly help you out. If you want you can add me to your contacts and I'll div with ya if I'm not already in a div.
