Should Tier 8 Russian and up have superior AA?

Once I got to my Tashkent I realized how much physically larger Tash and the other DD's are than DD in the Japanese and American fleet. They are destroyer leaders and displace significantly more, yet seem to have similar anti air to their Japanese and American counterparts.

 

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think they need to have a slight AA buff. Russian AA had to be better than Japanese, right? The placement of their AA guns certainly looks more effective.

I think the USN ships should keep AA-superiority. The RU Cruisers already have the ultimate speed which can go up to I think 48.7 kn with some upgrades. And the AA of the Zekamashi is very bad compared to the Khabarovsk or the Gearing. You can do the maths with ease by multiplicating the "damage" per second with the range and counting it all together

The lack of dual purpose guns until tier9 is probably the biggest thing hurting the VMF's AA.  Having a lot of small guns is good but requires planes to be nearly on top of you, whereas DP guns can start firing form 5km out.  Also I suppose there is some historical basis for it in that it wasn't until later in the war that ship designers started bolting AA guns onto every flat surface they could find, and the VMF destroyers are mostly designs from the 30s.

Just because something 'looks' like it is better doesn't mean it is.  Also, a great deal of what ships can do in this game is based on game balance, not on realistic capabilities (otherwise, Russian ships wouldn't have Radar with longer range than any other country and certainly would not have the high speeds they do, US classes would do citadels with every hit due to plunging fire, Japanese torpedoes would be all but undetectable, ect ).

 

Russian ships in this game have their strengths, and the areas where they seem to be weak is the counterbalance for those strengths.  If you want to buff the AA on them, they will have to lose speed or main battery capability.  I don't think many Russian ship captains in the game would like that.

Certainly not me. They're destroyers; downed planes are merely a bonus, not something I expect. Even from US DDs; at best I expect those to screw up manual drops if I choose the DefAA build.

Keep your AA, I want my speed! Nothing beats going 48 knots in a Khab!

tash had a much better aa till the recent aa revamp (like almost 1.5 times better)

right now her aa is the worst on the tier and imo needs a buff

 

the next ship in line, udaloy, gets dp guns and a better aa
