The captain skill is not working on the New York. It takes 34 secs to reload when I'm switching ammo types. It should take 17 secs.

Are you retraining your commander? The skills would be orange if you are

All your guns need to be loaded and ready before switching or it will take the default 34s.

Indeed, it would make sense for such a system to be in place, so next time, wait until your guns are all ready, and try it out :)

I didn't even think someone actually took that skill,  it has to be the Single most useless skill in the tree.

It has its uses, though its less used because its exceptionally situational, a skill that can be used more generally is usually a more popular skill, since its advantages can be utilized more often in combat.

After more testing of the skill, noticed that this is the case. It's a useless skill. If the skill actually does what it states, it would be great and also be abused for constant half reload speed. Basically they need to remove this for something that's actually useful. Even making it 5-10% with all reloads would be okay with me.

They actually buffed it from 30% to 50% in patch 5.3 and working as intended. It's pretty situational but if you have 1 point leftover on a battleship captain, it's not a bad skill to take.

I could see using it in IJN CAs, to switch ammo while still unspotted.

I can see it being of use as a 7-8th or so skill for me. Would rather take SA, BFT or BoS first :hmm:

I took it on a BB quite a while back misunderstanding what it did, but it still came in handy more than a few times.  That being said though, I didn't opt for that skill when all the captain skills were reset recently.

I do that. It's handy for when some CA presents his broadside and it just needs to be penetrated, or a DD situation pops up or whatnot.

.....

Some ships benefit more then others from it.  I use it on my Furutaka for example and it has been really handy.

No way that benefits more than BFT, SA, or even the -15% fire and Flooding.

Yes, more than that "-15%" reduce to fire chance. What flooding chance? :P

If you're not looking to improve your secondaries or doesn't have 139mm or less for main gun the importance order look like this

SA

BFT

IIRC, someone did the math for the -15% fire/flood skill, and it turned out to be pretty useless.

I'd say expert loader is more beneficial for high tier IJN CAs than the damage control skill.

I might end up taking it on the Tirpitz because after I grab everything I want, I'll have only one skill point (and points in  BFT, SA, and the survivability). Since I still accidentally [edited] switch to HE from time to time after torps, it might actually make some sense on that BB.

BoS gives you a 15% reduction to duration of Fire and Flooding,  not a Reduction in chance,   I missed the Duration in my previous statement so that may have added a bit of confusion.  I am not talking about the T2 Fire Prevention perk.

A Reduction in Burn time Is a HUGE bonus to any captain over the chance to occasionally use a quicker swap in rounds.  If you are looking for max damage reduction adding in DC party 2 gives an additional 15% to burn and flood time reduction.
