Just finished a game in my North Carolina and I shot down 62 planes, a new record for me and still didn't get the clear sky medal. I was against a a Shokaku and a Hiryu. If a recall, before, when the requirement to get it was 30 planes there was no flag given that you can use, now that they give you a flag for it, I understand that they raised the requirements, but I thing they should find a better way to implement this achievement. Basically you have no idea how close you are to acquiring this medal because you can't possibly know how many planes are on the enemy team. I think it would be best just to set a number of planes you need to shoot down just like before.

It's an extremely hard achievement to get after the change, since floatplanes (even ones that remain unlaunched) count towards the total number of planes in the game. The few times I've managed to get it have been with AS Essex and shooting down every single one of the enemy CV's planes. Different requirements for different classes of ship might be nice, considering you can't really control how many planes a CV will throw at you in a BB.

It's pretty much impossible for a non carrier. You have to kill at least half of all the possible planes. This includes all potential(and often not completely consumed) catapult planes like the spotter and fighter planes.

You did well to down that many planes, but give up on clear skies in any non carrier

Sinking ships should also destroy whatever planes they have onboard. They could just make remaining planes count and then it might be a little more achievable.

I haven't gotten one of these medals since the change. The last time I got it was in a Lexington. I've gone through both the Essex and Taiho without once getting the medal. It used to be kind of challenging, but not to hard. Now if you run strike load outs you're not likely to get it. If you're medal chasing it encourages AS load outs.

It's the opposite of the close quarters medal. That one used to be really hard to get, now not so much.

Yeah, this is the one achievement I have written off.  I got 50 planes in a single CV match in the MK and knew then that this wasn't gonna be worth it.  I occasionally try to CV, but it's just not my playstyle.

Which I love to drag across friendly ships with my Strike Loadouts, or my own CV, where the precious fighters get ripped apart by flak. (Unless they are a total (censored) who uses the completely bogus and (censored) 'Strafe' ability, but that's another topic... ^_^.) then I just go back to bombing and torping enemy ships.

Got my first Clear Sky in a Strike Loadout Bogue during the CV Challenge, using just tail-gunners and flak. (Admittedly, before the change.)

I think I have had one since the change; but also admittedly, using an Air Superiority Loadout because I wanted to get some mission or another out of the way as fast as possible.
