A Choice Between Cruisers

Here's my situation. I have a SHITLOAD of credits, and a good chunk of Free XP, and I've calculated that I can get one of four cruisers: the Cleveland, the Myoko,, the Kirov, and the Nurnberg. (Why the Myoko? I am currently grinding the Aoba.)

Which do you think I should get?

(fyi a ship with really good AAA turns me on, not gonna lie.)

If you're going for AA power, I would say Cleveland then fully upgraded Myoko. As far as Nurnberg has very little AA and don't have Kirov.

Hmmm a very tough choice a i have the cleveland and nurnberg and myoko. I sold the kirov and got the budyonny. So for my vote i would have to go with the nurnberg if i only had to pick one. I use the nurnberg for team battles as well as random and do very well with her. The nurnberg has a faster rate or fire and longer range and she has torps over the cleveland. The cleveland does have better AA protection. It comes down to a choice of defense against aircraft or shooting at your opposition. It all depends on your play style.:izmena:

The Cleaveland, absolutely.  Great AA... DPM... what's not to love?

I'm sorely tempted by the Myoko, since I really enjoy the Aoba. However, when I'm in my Aoba, the ship that kills me the most (other than BBs) is the Nurnberg. The Myoko is something I'll keep grinding for a while, so for now I think I'll go with the Nurnberg. Thanks all! :teethhappy:

Ok... I'll give you the arc, but none of the choices have fast turret traverse.

If you like the Aoba, you'll love the Myoko.  That's been my experience at least.  Really busy at work lately, but when I have time, I really look forward to sailing her.

Suboribital arcs, sluggish steering, slow turrets.

And line of sight HE spamming is just boring as hell.

But hey, at least they are suborbital, right?

I personally would recommend the nurnburg just because of what comes later in the German line. German ships are absolute DPS monsters if you play them right. The nurn itself is a good ship with stellar guns, albeit the survivability is a fair portion less then the other 3. But you get the best guns of the tier with the best arcs and absolutely punishing AP on cruisers at all distances and BBs when you get closer. Also while the torps are not, and never will be, IJN quality, they are hard hitting and great for panic moments or a bit of a reckless charge on the sluggish BBs of the tier.

Cleveland tends to get focused the most, so you take her, better plan to get opportunities to surprise, 1v1 opponents, or tag along with BBs to provide HE support. Plus, you have the AA rep to AA cruiser your team's CV to a safer zone.

Myoko is the most versatile of the four, including 10km range torps (suited mostly to area denial or during a retreat). If you put BFT and AFT on her, her AA is actually pretty vicious for an IJN CA. My best AA record comes from 41 planes felled with this ship. Her major weakness is her citadel's size.

I'm using Nurnberg. Her armor is less forgiving of mistakes when angling (a Pepsi player actually got lucky yesterday and put a 12-round Devastating Strike right through my Nurn's front), but her AP is vicious. Within 13km it will citadel enemy cruisers if you aim well. Enemy BBs within 15km (13km is more reliable for accuracy) are also vulnerable to AP overpenning their superstructure; I've managed 5-8K volleys before, but have to be ready to dodge because BBs will retaliate. Rarely have opportunities to use her torps, but their speed makes their 6km range reliable for countering DDs.

Haven't seen the Russian T6 cruiser much, my impression is its armor is not that reliable for deflecting (since those cruisers are addicted to dodging), but their HE fire % is a match for IJN cruisers.

I have all the ships and the Myoko would be my choice if I could only keep one.

  • Cleveland is limited to 14km range and has a high shell arc
  • Nurnberg has to be played very standoffish and doesn't dominate anywhere the same way as the Konigsberg due to a higher tier of match making
  • Kirov has great guns, but you have to be very cautious with it due to how soft it is.  It also doesn't turn on a dime and has relatively high concealment.
  • Myoko plays very similar to the Aoba with some extra guns.  Good selection of HE, AP and torpedoes.  It sits pretty low in the water so it takes less damage than something like the Cleveland.  Only downside is that, like any cruiser, it can be one shot of a BB shooting AP gets a good RNG roll.

ijn cruiser line is the best

still mewko isn't that *very* tempting per se since you soon can get yet another arp myoko clone (haguro iirc, she is red ugly tho) it's if you missed arp myoko for some reason... so you can get myokou soon anyway

the real myoko allows you to get mogami~n and then eventually zao but mogami was seriously nerfed to make atago sales higher, ibuki is considered bad and it's a long road to zao

p.s. while arp haguro ship is a godawful ugly orc-tier red goez fasta sheep, haguro herself is a cutie, cuter than mewko, pic related... but she is not the prized 16 point captain which we possibly can get, so... you see, you likely won't use her (the captain) at all, captain switching is free between arp ships and a 16 point captain is a 16 point captain

Gonna have to go out on a limb here and suggest Kirov. It's a love/hate ship on the forums currently. Awesome guns, with poor armor and turning. If you are competent and/or enjoy a challenge, then try the kirov. The next in line (Budyonny) is even better.

The Nurn can be a aggressive little beastie, good fire rate, good ap, but that Lack of HE can make DD's and BB's a pain, not too bad against the heavier armor DD's but the really light skins you tend to over pen

I like myoko and yorck.  nurnberg was just bit squishy for my taste, but yorck is fun ship.   Cleveland is strong ship, but its been a while since I played it and its arc is annoying.   Kirov is my worst performing ship, and even squishier than nurnberg.
