So, I LOVE Cruisers, working my way up the German line.  I get to the Yorck.......................should be named the Yuck!  So, I grind through it and sell it having kept the Konigsberg and the Nurmberg because I like them so much.  So, I get to the point, no Yorck, have the Admiral Hipper and the Roon working on the Hindenburg and I am following my plan on working my way up the US line and replacing the hole left from selling the Yorck by getting the Pensacola.  So, up I go and I get to the Cleveland.  Now I know most players love it, not me, HATED it!  So, I'm grinding it, but SLOWLY when it's announced the Russian line of Cruisers are coming out.  I see the guns on the Kirov and had an organism!  But I didn't look at the armor, I couldn't get past those nice big high velocity guns!  So, as soon as they come out I use all of my saved up Free XP and some converted XP to Free XP to work my way immediately to the Kirov, buy it, outfit it and start playing it!  So, the first game started, shoot, sunk!  Second game, shoot, sunk!  Third game, don't shoot, sunk!    Hmm.....................I play my Konigsberg and find I can sink a Kirov with one or two well placed salvos................................CRAP!!!!!!  Game after game after game, sunk, sunk, sunk!!!  I HATE the Kirov, HATE WITH A PASSION!!!!  So, I get mad, sell the Kirov so I can get the Pensacola.  I buy the Pensacola and I'm happy!  Outfit it fully, ready for battle.  Finally I have the Tier 7 hole in my Cruiser line plugged!!!!  So, I take her out on her fist mission and I'm duking it out with a Myoko when I decide to go in for a Torpedo shot to finish him off!!!  HA, I WILL WIN THE DAY, INTO THE BREACH, FULL SPEED AHEAD, READY, HARD LEFT RUDDER, FIRE TORPEDOES!!!!!!  YES.............................WHERE ARE THE TORPS!!!!!!!!  THIS SHIP DOESN"T HAVE TORPS!!!!!!!!  CRAP!!!!!!!  SUNK!!!!  :amazed:

So, in sumation, this all started with not liking the Yorck and selling it.  Now after months of playing and ships bought and sold............................I'm going to buy back the Yorck...........................yep!  I hope someone learns from my mistake!  LOL   :(

You didn't say much that would allow us to help you but i think you might be overly aggressive.

thank you sir!  I love the Pensacola so you're just telling me I am going to find the Yorck outstanding :teethhappy:

Really liking the Konigsberg.  Haven't really had a chance to use the Russian cruisers yet thanks to my ISP (down on WOWS since the 21'st) but I am mostly a BB player to begin with.

Sounds good.

And yeah you are way too aggressive.  I can tell from not liking that you don't have torps.*  This tier for cruisers is more BB like; maybe why I am liking them so much.

huh?  Previous post?  Nah, I didn't take any clues from a supertester, why would I do that?

I hope someone learns from my mistake!  LOL   :(

And I hope that someone is you. Don't just try to force any ship of the same 'class' into the same playstyle. Yorck requires a whole different playstyle than, say, Nurnberg, Use HE at longer range, AP only at close / medium ranges against soft targets. Don't be aggressive, be patient.

In my experience Kirov plays a lot like Konigsberg would with two forward turrets and one aft. Namely you have to pick fights carefully and engage targets who are busy worrying about someone close to torpedo range. When I do badly with Kirov it's because I got impatient and tried to lead with it. When I've used space to my advantage in the back, I can do very well with Kirov. However Kirov absolutely can't take fire.

Am I suggesting Kirov is great right now? Ehh, it could use some work. Like when you get the B-hull you lose your spotting plane and don't really gain anything else besides AA and a tiny amount of health. With this said Kirov has a big advantage over Svetlana, namely I don't have to hear 'critical engine damage!' every few seconds.

Just one more data point, but I have found Pensacola just plain painful, where I have enjoyed Yorck.  Pensacola hits harder (10 guns to 8) and both are quite fragile.  However, I find Yorck easier to hit targets with.  It seems that both ships have a similar style of play (support role, kill DDs and CAs to protect your BBs & try to stay away from enemy BB's who can one shot you).  All that said, I am not a very good player, so I am certain that the good players can make either work well. :)

Kirov is a long-range sniper. Stay at 13-14km and burn them to the ground.

Also, with the Yorck, are you firing HE? You should be firing HE on almost everything.

Wow, cool story bro but ummm... what's your point?

Thanks for all the advice.  My point was each ship is different and you have to play it to it's strengths, don't give up on it quickly and sell it.

I was playing every cruiser the same, now I realize that's not right.  The other posters here have confirmed that for me and told me to quit being so aggressive.  I did find that every time I played the Kirov I was killed and I was in front of all the other ships.  In fact I'm almost always the lead ship, that's why my survival rate is so low.  I'm not sure I can be less aggressive though.  I look at a map and I watch how the fleet reacts and I move quickly to plug a gap and I'm always close behind the DD's to give them support and take out enemy DD's............................. I like being out front!   I like being in charge and giving directions.  So, what to do?  That's the question!
