I go away on vacation during a three-day event during which I missed yet another opportunity to purchase the MK.  WG, why do you guys insist on limited marketing of certain ships?  If the Atago is still for sale, why not many of the others that you seem to want to limit?  Do you not like revenue?  Is my money not good enough?

In all seriousness, please explain why you do this.

Enforced scarcity increases demand so when they do put it up for distribution in the future its reputation for rarity will drive up sales.

If WG's marketing staff (not well educated in marketing) lives by that method of marketing, then why is the Atago and ANY of the other ships for sale in the Premium shop?  Doesn't make sense to me.

It's all about incentive, if they didn't have any premium vessels to sell then there'd be less point to visiting the shop. If there's a chance of people buying bunch of mediocre vessels then they'll want to take it. You'll notice that most of the objectively good ships have seen limited release. Sure there's the Atago, but the playstyle she encourages is pretty dangerous for her tier. Then there's murmansk and aurora, who fit pretty well into their niches, but don't expect a goldmine. The less said about Atlanta and the Ishizuchi the better.

I dove in and purchased the Kutuzov as soon as I seen it on sale this past weekend, because we all know it could be many more months before we see her offered again.  And to be honest, I think I may like her better than the Atago...

From a consumer's perspective, I am not a fan of this along with a number of other tactics displayed by WGNA's marketing department. That said, no one here has enough data to determine the impact this ultimately has on their bottom line, so I'll withhold speculation on how shrewd of a business decision this is on their part.  One would hope, however, that they're at least aware of the fact that resentful customers won't remain customers for long.

With that out of the way, this can perhaps be avoided in the future by remembering that you can make purchases in the premium shop from any device, not just the one WoWS is installed on.  Glad that's the case too, because the one time the Nikolai was on sale I only got around to buying it at the last minute from my phone.

I'm just gonna put this here:

Russian Premium Shop

Note that the only limited time offer is the 3 pack with the Mikasa (still never sold on NA), Tachibana & Anshan.

We should send WGNA marketing to siberia... or at least wherever RU marketing is based, maybe they'd learn a thing or 2 about not being fools.

They'll be lost in Chicago trying to find the airport ---

they flew in from the west coast - so they arrived in the airport

I was actually surprised that I didn't see "80% premium ship that is currently on sale matches", although there were more MK than what I normally see.

Even if they don't give us the ships, at least give us the same pricing....

OP has over a thousand posts...

Should know by now that the WGNA marketing department loves nothing more than to crap on us.

At this point, it doesn't even really bother me anymore. I just find it amusing. I have been waiting for a sell on the Mikasa or the Tirpitz for months now. During that time I have seen so much other junk come and go in the premium shop...two Pan Asian DD's that are the only ships of that nation, these new starter packs and soon we will see a premium CV.

:D

How about keeping an eye on the website regularly and maybe you will not miss on ships. It takes 3 seconds to login to a coffee shop wifi and check the website.

That's the whole idea of a premium ship, that it's not available to everyone and is rare. If everyone had it and it was like any other ship, why pay 3 months of premium time for it?

Personally, I'm glad the sale of the MK lasted only a weekend.

I missed out on the Tirpitz, Blys, and many others. I am just impatiently waiting for them till they do come again.

Didn't pull the trigger on MK earlier because why bother. Now I think I bought it just for Ranked games.

Although I appreciate and respect MOST of your responses, none of them really explain the idiocy behind WG's marketing staff.  The original intent of this post was to get an answer from that entity, not collect a lot of 'woulda, shoulda, coulda' responses.  It isn't so much about everyone's speculation as to why WG's marketing staff is professionally challenged in marketing techniques; rather, it's about WHY they do the things they do.

Rare ships are only rare if there is an open market for the sale and/or trade of said ships.  Selling for a short time only frustrates customers like me and a sizable number of the player base and just doesn't make sense from a marketing or sales standpoint.

I am acutely aware of this, and I, like many others are tired of it.

You're not really gonna get that answer any time soon, even if you submit a ticket. People have been asking this since the game hit live.

Scarcity increases the value of a good, so that when it goes on sale the next time, people will REALLY want to buy it i.e. demand will be huge. So they increase their sales during the sale period, but keep the sale period short. So effectively, they are increasing their efficiency (more sales / day) , by controlling the supply, but likely not increasing the overall sales made as if they were sold over a long period of time. As already said, who knows if it's working from an business standpoint. Only they know that. One thing is for sure, the strategy keeps most premium ships being rare and unique.

I really don't mind so long as I know they'll return.

I'm starting to think we don't have much of a marketing department atm and its just a bunch of interns or something following directives from people who don't know what they are doing.
