calculating ramming damage

How do you calculate damage your going to receive when a ship with a certain amount of health is going to ram you ??and how much damage you are going to deal when you ram them??

It appears that the ramming ship does their max HP in damage to the target... So a vessel with 20k HP does 20k HP in damage. Dunno if there's other variables involved.

Without signal flags, the maximum amount of damage dealt is equal to the max HP of the opposite ship.

 

So if a Warspite (53,800hp) rams a Kirov (30,800hp) at full speed, the Kirov will be destroyed (taking 53,800 damage) and the Warspite will take 30,800, not including the flooding which will inevitably result.

Little off topic but the survivability expert perk also effect its, with more health your ship will do more damage and that little extra HP can also save you from a ram especially from a identical ship that does not that captain skill.

It'll take that into account although i would hope you're only using that perk on destroyers. It's worthless on all other ship classes.

Take your max health, that's how much you do to the enemy, take your enemy's max health, that's how much damage you will take. It is really that simple.

So ship class difference doesn't taken into account?

 

It would be interesting if ships equipped with ram bow do more damage when T-boning enemy ship.

Nothing but ship health, that's it. A tiny erie smashing into a yamato will do the same damage as if an erie had smashed into a sampson.

Smashing your bow into the rear end of another ship that is moving forward doesn't do your full HP in damage to the enemy target from my experience. The target usually lives in this scenario. Similar to how in real life, the force experienced from a head on collision is significantly greater (usually double) to that of a rear end collision. That's just how I view the ramming damage.

I think I heard somewhere that the extra hp from that perk is always able to be healed or at least is more likely to, is that true? I only use it on DD myself so no clue what that HP is actually attributed to.

I wouldn't call it useless. Under some circumstances it allows you to survive by just a bit like

And it feels better to have those extra points
