Does anyone have an idea how XP for destroyers is calculated?

So, did I get some XP for every torp I launched, even though only one hit? Did I get XP for frantically driving erratically a lot while spotted and somehow not dying? Did I get XP for lighting up red ships and my team smacking them around, is spotting XP even a factor in this game? Did I get so much XP for capping two points? Because I did. If so, then the XP reward for capping is ridiculous.

I would like to know the ratio for earning XP in all ships, one thing armored warfare does right (I don't much care for the game overall) is give you a detailed breakdown of the XP and credit income after every battle.  This way, there is no wondering.

 

im fairly certain XP for capping is weighted extremely high and that's debatable if it's too high.

But that is exactly it....2 caps == lots of xp. WG "re-balanced" it awhile back, but the exact formula seems to be top-secret....:unsure:

Yeah, honestly, before that patch, earning XP was all about dealing damage... with the most unreliable source of damage, torps.

True, DD's needed some balancing at that point, and capping was it. Have to wonder if they went overboard sometimes though....:teethhappy:

The capping change was very good, primarily for DDs, but it's good for everyone else too.

Destroyers are the best cappers for like forty seven thousand and eight reasons, and before the change, the only reward for doing it was basically a feeling of personal satisfaction. Now though, people who should be spending most of their time contesting caps, flipping caps, sneaky capping, and preventing captures are actually doing that instead of being useless and chasing the enemy carrier. That's good for everyone else because it helps more people win their battles and fosters engagements around the key areas. These are both good things.

Yeah its the cap XP.

 

I had a battle the other day where I killed a Farragut & capped a point in my Ognevoy right at the start at cost of most of my health & my rear turret, then spent the rest of the match running the [edited]away from the mostly T8 1/3 of the enemy team that was my side of the map, while the rest of the team failed to beat their 2/3, still got over 1k base XP & 2nd on team.

Yeah, caps are OP for DDs. The only way to get scores high enough to rank highly in forum DD contests (like recent one for Lo Yang) were to load into a domination mode game and get 4-5 caps because they would flip.

As others have said it is capping, If you make a full cap it is worth about 600xp on a win or 400xp on a lose, if you completely cap it alone. Also contesting a cap aka moving into one so the enemy stops getting points gives a lot as does shooting and resetting a cap.

 

With that said the cap xp is the same for any ship that does it, just DD's tend to be the ones that do most of the capping. But I got 3 solo caps in a cruiser once and made insane xp as well.

IMO it's really important for it to remain high. So many people completely ignore the CAPs to brawl instead and end up losing completely winnable games.

Hahaha, imagine if it got nerfed. I mean, many DD players already tend to be afraid of capping for some reason...  Games would become far less enjoyable too, because everyone would just camp in base too. Incentives that motivate proper gameplay are nice.

Exactly. It's beyond me why many DD captains don't cap. I got 4 caps today in a match with my Pensacola because our 2 DDs avoided CAPs like the plague.

I agree I can't count the number of games I lost because my team refused to cap and went off to hunt down some ship they thought might be near cap. I actually like the current capping xp, it encourages people to contest the caps.

Yeah... I think XP for caps is a little too much. I can't count how many times I've had to ditch a cap for lack of support or how many times I've gotten a free cap because no one else was there. Really would not mind getting less XP for caps. It's just too binary a system for a game that's supposed to have some fluidity to it... but I understand with the current meta that there is no way a DD is going to get enough XP to cover the bills without it being so high.

 

The point of the caps is to anchor the game to certain areas so people actually find each other and fight. Ignoring caps is fine as long as the fighting is being done proper. I've seen plenty of games where caps were contested the whole time but never captured.


It leaves a lot of gaps for DDs though. If you get caught in the cap, you're pretty much dead. A hurt IJN is still an IJN but a hurt USN is pretty much screwed for the game and capping contests happen pretty early for sure.

Smart DDs don't cap without support. More often than not, they're pressured by their teams to go for caps without... especially IJNs for some reason. Despite having more damage on single rounds, they have slow turning guns with bad overall DPS. If an Shimakaze gets caught in a cap by a Gearing, Fletcher, or a Khabarovsk.... Shima is likely going to sink with 5 HE hits to its name without anything else for XP... and with the current meta so gung ho about torpedo acquisition on Type 93s and BBs with better torp evasion than DDs, it gets really tempting for IJNs to go for caps because that's the more likely source for XP.

XP was buffed for both capping and defending caps. Just as DD's should be trying to cap as much as possible (especially early game), CA's (and to a less extent BB's) should be looking to assist DD's in cap conflicts. I have had several games in RU cruisers now that were phenomenal XP games where I did middling damage but had 5-8 cap defend flags.

 

Cover your DD's as they cap instead of shooting max range BB's, and reap the rewards.
