I just had an interesting game in my Svietlana where I deliberately beached myself against an island to hide myself from the enemy team to cap. I didn't do anything fancy, just went to the opposing team's NE cap on New Dawn and parked myself right up against an island and set the engine to stop. I could have reversed out if I wanted to, but since that wasn't the idea I left the ship in 'Stop.' Now I wasn't really paying attention to the ship, I was pinging the map, keeping an eye on the opposing team's cap points and timer, and a few minutes later my ship was no longer beached but out enough so I could start moving forward again. The only thing I can figure is the game assumed I was stuck and moved me away from the island automatically. I had no idea WG had such a system in place and was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar. Might be worth checking out further.

My point is I deliberately beached myself and left it there. The collision alarm went off and everything, the ship was stuck. A few minutes later, with no input from me, the ship is no longer beached. That's what I experienced.

I think it was the same patch that implemented the border-riding penalty. But how it works is not intuitive at all. The current way that I've been pulling it off is to full reverse or full forward and then keep it like that. I'll continue to have like 0 speed but it actually keeps the throttle setting instead of popping back to neutral. A minute later, with a pop, you get pushed out and you can actually accelerate again. Which totally isn't how it worked for you. So yeah, not intuitive at all. Edited March 26, 2016 by Misniso

Nice to know it's a thing, but some developer commentary on how exactly it works would be nice. The last thing I need to be hugging an island so I don't get hit, only to pop out into a firing angle for an enemy. Granted the odds of that happening are rare, but still. This was implemented during CBT. I remember because it was mentioned by KMaus (yes, that far back). The mechanic may have been tweaked since then, but it has been a thing for a while.

I can't help to wonder how in the world you ended up on an isle. Your ship must have been very much in love with the land!
