How do I transfer free xp to a ship?

I really hate the Tier 7 German Cruiser and I'm trying to skip past it as fast as possible by grinding free xp on my elite Tier 6 German Cruiser. I purchased 1,250 doubloons and played a couple of games on my elite T6. I then clicked "Convert XP" in the top right corner of my port and now I have 5,355 free XP to spend. The problem is is that I can't figure out how to transfer this free XP to my Tier 7 German Cruiser.

once its converted to free XP it can be used on any ship, no need to assign it.

 

it will show up as green text while normal XP is in white. if you switch over to the yorck you should see the totals.

 

also, i would not recommend skipping a whole ship. the yorck gets you ready for the hipper since they do play similarly. and if youre not liking the yorck the hipper is more of the same, just with better AP velocity. the hipper is another soft support ship.

You can use free exp on the modules for a ship... though.. I think you need to own it to do so.

 

If you don't you'll only have the option of skipping the shop entirely.

free xp it's simply the xp which can be used on any ship as if it was that ship's xp

 

it's listed separately from the ship xp, it's not linked to any ship at all, it can be used for any ship and any module in any line

 

let's suppose your york has 0 ship xp, you will need minimum 21500 (hull b) + 114000 (hipper) = 135500 free xp (without unlocking the upgraded gfcs which you can skip, it saves 14000 xp) to unlock hipper

 

if your york has, say 10000 ship xp you need minimum 125500 free xp and so forth

 

slow turrets? that's afaik the post buff turret speed on yorck :3

they are really aren't slow, york has 34.6 sec turret half rotation while myoko has it 45 sec

Free experience is just that FREE, unattached to any ship and can be used on any ship period. Think of it as experience that floats about until you need it and then it fills the gap that ship based experience to get you to your goal.

I am no expert nor a very good player but I wanted to try and explain this in a simple way.  Keep in mind that all amounts and figures are not accurate and are used as a means to explain this.

 

Free experience:

You bought doubloons with the purpose of using it on free experience.  So for that you know how that works.

For the sake of arguement you have 20000 free experience currently.

Lets use the German ships you were speaking of - say your t6 nurnberg has all modules researched  and is elite and you have still played and have stored/earned 18000 experience.  

Total amount of experience needed to get the t7 german ship is 33000 experience so you in essence have 18000 towards that 33000 amount needed.  So you decide that you no longer want to play the t6 german cruisers(cant blame you) and you decide to get the t7 ship.  You use your doubloons you bought to move that 18000 experience to your free experience kitty.  You should now have 38000 free experience showing (20k already gathered and 18k from the elite t6 german ship)

You now can click on the button to use experience to unlock the t7 ship.  You should be left with 5k in free experience and the ability to purchase the t7 german ship with credits.

 

A few things that need to be mentioned that the veterans around here will either agree or not.

 

When you move up to a new tier ship, do not purchase a captain unless you plan on keeping the ship you just elited and moved on from.  You purchase the ship without a captain and then move the old captain into the new ship.  If possible, at least use the option with credits when retraining your captain.  It will be 200k and will leave you at 50% captain skills.  I have found or have read from others that the best thing to do is play your first 5-10 games in co-op with your new ship.  It gives you an idea how that ship performs and will help you get past that 50% captain skill.

 

Again if this is too simplified, I am sorry - just want to make sure you understand the premise of free experience.

Never free XP past a lousy ship.

 

Use free XP to research upgrades so you're not playing a stock Hull.

 

The Yorck is bad, but not unplayable. Just use HE. If you can't make it work after 50-100 matches, it's not like suddenly you'll be amazing in the Hipster, Roon or Hindedburg. You'll get wrecked until you learn the playstyle.
