Honestly how does a wicks knock out a cruiser's boiler room?

No WASD?

Dodge every HE shell with a ten second rudder shift time? At T4-6?With 11km range?

Do you like the way I'm asking these questions?

I know, you have to show your bow to the entire map to stay safe.  Shame with all those guns packed around you.  If they are ignoring you that ship can light em up.  Her forward firing firepower is pretty limited though.  It's like driving a Fuso so painful to maneuver.

Woe to the unsuspecting DD that gets close though, you can really smother them.  And the torpedo arcs are the best in the game!

This has been my experience too.  I run premium damage control party and in 7 games in the ship I'm been left totally dead in the water (2 knock outs in less than 60 seconds) at least 3 times.

I'm not really loving the ship.  It feels very sluggish, is very fragile, and it's guns don't do much damage.  About the only thing I do like is the plentiful number of guns and the torp arcs and reload rate.

I sank a BB and DD with it in the same game.. using the torps.

It really is squishy .. they must have US guns lol (Shell arc sucks)

I have to wonder if you people just aren't playing the ship right. While I only needed 11 games to get out of the ship, I only lost 2 of those 11 games. Averaged 40k damage and 1.5 kills per game and survived for 7 of the 11 games as well. Played it exactly like any other T4 like the Kuma or Phoenix. Stuck close to at least one teammate, turned away from anything paying attention to me and charging anything not aiming at me.

Both shells are perfectly viable. AP works at anything sub-9k which isn't that far out even for a T4.

Last Stand. I found this is almost a must have skill with the low tier Russian cruisers.

I'm quite lov'n the t4 Svetlana myself..  It feels less fragile then the Kuma, and has significantly better guns, and more of them.  I like so much in point of fact I have finally discharged my Kuma and will be having the Svetlana replacing it as my tier 4 ship of choice  (it'll be even better once I get AFT for the commander)

I think from iku19's datamine, RU Cruisers got increased module fragility during the introduction to 5.4.

The kuma says hi.  It has the same problem.

Last Stand is an absolute necessity for Svietlana. I lose my engine and rudder multiple times per game.

FWIW I found an interesting stat on her... she has a detectable range of 9.9km surface, 6.0 air. Seriously, that's like starting to approach DD country..

And I looked at the other standard cruisers in her tier... she beats them all...

I find if i cruise at less than FSA looking where I think DD will be I find them first. Because they aren't looking for a cruiser that can be 10km away and not visible. I reckon some higher comander skills would lower that even more.

Play her bow forward under heavy fire and angling helps a bit.

I averaged 37k damage and 1.6 kills per game so it's not like I'm clueless.  I just don't find it a very fun ship.  I find I get so many sub 1k salvos it's like I'm shooting a potato gun sometimes.  It's also sluggish and not much fun to drive.

First game in the Kirov I scored 115k damage in a tier VII match.  It seems much more my style.  I can deal with a fragile ship if it can dish some pain in return.

First match, detonated 3 minutes in by a Wyoming while I was retreating. Full health to nothing. I did manage to fire one salvo of AP against a tier 3 Russian CA. Did a surprising 4500 damage. This boat feels a BB for steering. Anything over 5-6 seconds rudder shift is not able to dodge so you have to pre-plan your movements and hope the enemy is not going to be put in a good position against you.

Can the 130mm's on these boats get citadels? Haven't had one yet in these Russian CAs.

Regardless of how I thought it played, she's a keeper because of her pretty name.

But seriously, I've been liking this ship. Feels similar to the Phoenix (which I also like using).

She is a bit of a slog to level through. The glass boiler room isn't a myth, she suffers engine incapacitations more often than the worst DDs I've played with similar vulnerability.

Honestly, I have found the rudder shift and turning radius to be very acceptable. The biggest problem I have is she isn't just on the slow side, but she takes forever to go from full forward to a stop and into reverse. Most battleships seem to handle momentum changes better. It's so bad I actually wonder if it isn't a bug.

Oh, one thing I learned in a match yesterday, even though she seems to have subpar armor when dealing with most adversaries, it can be impossible to kill another Svietlana at close range with AP. I had some luck with the occasional AP switch against other cruisers, but I had a close range engagement with another Svietlana, him with HE, me with AP and I did about a third as much damage with the AP over the course of the fight. It was so absurd that I chose to forgo torps, (we had a win soon anyway) and just see if I could find a spot on her broadsides that would produce reasonable damage and citadel hits, with no luck.

I did have an exceptional match with her, over 120k damage and 4 kills, but it was just a combination of smart play and a lot of luck having allied and enemy ship locations and courses set up perfectly to allow me to avoid 1 vs 1 and hop in on as an add while allies took the brunt of the enemy shots. (On the side of my impression that the rudder shift and turning are not bad, in that match I was able to take out a full health CV being guarded by a BB who just could not hit me as I zigged and zagged around, sailing towards the BB, while unloading my broadsides on the CV).

I'm almost out of her and hope the next ship in the line is a bit more fun to play.

I loved the Svetlana (tier 4 RUS cruiser).   It's like an Atlanta at tier 4 where no one knows how to counter it.    Last game to unlock the Kirov was a loss or would have ended with a 100% win rate in it.    Haven't sold it yet.  Might still keep it.   Downside is tier 4 games.

It's all about the guns, lots and lots of guns with good firing arc.   The gun range is bad (11.3 upgraded) but detectability is good (9.9 km base).   The detectability makes the ship workable even on the Ocean map.

She's fragile, will lose rudder and/or engine often especailly when in a fighting retreat.  Suggestion, train the captain in Last Stand and take either the engine protection or rudder protection upgrade.

She trundles, not fast, slow to change speed, and turns are a bit sluggish.  If you have access the Sierra Mike (5% speed increase) makes the ship more fun but it's not necessary.

Managed to sink a couple of BBs and cruisers with the torpedoes.  Mostly used them defensively to force opponents to maneuver.  Their reload is very good.  Several times used the torps to funnel DDs so they could not turn to torp me.  Then pummel them with the guns.

Edit: added torp thoughts. Edit: grammar.

This is a Great ship...especially since the power buff. I breezed through her is 18 games. 67% Win rate 1.85 K/D and averaging 30k damage. Her ROF is wicked, flat guns, great detection range. Lights fires like an arsonist.  I didn't even use an experienced Captain, I was thinking of using my 18pt commander to see what I could do with her then. I didnt even have LS as a skill, the engine or rudder would get knocked out quite a bit but I kept slugging.

Wont be long before the some players demand the NERF bat be taken to her.

Definitely a keeper, superior to the Phoenix and Kuma, which are both decent for their tier.

Like others have posted: last stand plus rudder mod, possibly premium repair. You can re-spec your captain once you get the Kirov, the engine doesn't get knocked out nearly so much. Also worth mentioning is when using camo paint, this ship is quite stealthy. If you're in a group of ships and getting focused on, pull back and cease firing. It's not DD levels of stealth but it's noticeable. Not too sure it's superior to the Kuma, but then again I am biased toward that ship(7km torps!) but it's close as to which might be 'best' for tier 4.

Edit: meant engine mod. The engine is highly prone to getting knocked out, sometimes multiple times per match.

I've seen a Svietlana sail into my group of 5 ships, release its torps (yes, he survived to get within 5km), kill a DD, take out half of a Kirov's health all the while getting to 2km before it got sunk.
