I've started noticing this more, and I wanted to ask if this is normal? I get that it could be hitting below the water, but it's just splash then half my life gone. No hit sound, just gone. It usually happens when I am taking fire from different angles or I am turning. But just now, I got one when I was driving towards the enemy, it hit to my right so it should have been a miss right? He wasn't off center, just splash then life gone. Am I crazy?

You have about the same amount of ship under water as you see above. Even if it hit to your side, if it was coming at an angle it very well could have nailed you depending on your armor.

Yeah, I've noticed a few Citadels I've gotten on peeps are from hitting the very edge of their hull, so near the edge in fact, that they wouldn't even seem to have connected in the first place. I guess during those instances the shells simply penetrated the citadel bellow the waterline!

No it's because RNG, it has nothing to do with the "animation" of hitting u, it's all about the RNG, even if the animation didn't hit u but the RNG decide to register a hit then you are hit.

This is known as ignorance. If the shell connects with your ship it counts as a hit, that's all there is to it, now stop spreading lies already, it's disgusting.

Could also just be desync between where your client is rendering the animations vs where the server thinks you ACTUALLY are.
