Make all 76mm AA guns dual purpose

Like they were in real life. A lot of ships have 75 or 76mm guns which are not dual purpose (except for the Japs, whose 76mm guns get special treatment for some reason)

It would be nice if they were all dual purpose, as they were capable of doing so in real life

I mainly want this for the coolness factor

Would also make the Des Moines a bit more interesting as it has a ton of these too

Pretty sure Japanese don't have dual purpose 3" guns. I really can't think of any Japanese ship in game with a 3" gun except the Tachibana. The only dual purpose mounts that the Japanese have in game are the 120mm, 127mm, and 100mm.

There is literally no reason these DP guns shouldn't be DP guns.

Is Wargaming racist against 76mm guns? Seems like it.

what do you expect a 76mm gun to do at T10?

lots of the 76mm guns on lower tiers were specifically AA guns, not dual purpose (USN ones at least). if there are 76mm IJN guns which are DP (dont think there are) its probably because they were when they were mounted not due to special treatment...

Light fires.

That's all it needs to do.

I suppose the Mark 29 AP shell was for the really tough planes then?

Most Japanese ships from T3 to T5 have 3" secondaries, usually on the stock hull. Don't let the "8cm" fool you, they are copied British 3" guns, straight outta Elswick.

Yeah, and there are plenty of USN ships with 3" secondaries as well. None of them are DP though.

Only Chester, St Louis, and South Carolina have SP 3" secondaries. Wyoming, New York, Phoenix, Omaha, and Langley all have 3"/50 as AA only.

I was apparently mistaken, the Japanese 8cm 41st Year guns are all SP. However, the 8cm 3rd Year guns on Furutaka and Kongo do count as dual purpose. Curiously, the exact same gun is AA only on Tenryu and Kuma, and are labeled differently (80mm (3") 3rd Year Type).

Exactly, despite being labeled as 8cm or 80mm guns, they were actually regular 76mm guns. As to why the Japanese did that I have not been able to find any information

The 76mm guns on the Des Moines fired at a rate of 50 rounds per minute. Per gun. All thanks to a special automatic loading system. It would basically be good for chipping away damage of other ships and setting fires.

Oh my god, please do. They wouldn't even need to do damage, just flail at things and look cool.
