I've had a rough time with the Colorado since I got her, and I've made a thread venting about her shortcomings in the past, but today I'm here to say I'm sorry. For today, I am now proud of owning my very own Colorado class battleship. It was a long time coming, I had to cram a few flags on her, but today she succeeded my expectations.

I did make a pretty bad mistake early game, and props to the rest of the team for holding the flank like they did, giving me and the three ships that came with a fighting chance. Snatched victory from a pretty bad mistake, I was pretty rude when a player pointed it out, and for that I apologize. However, beyond that a stellar game from a ship I thought underperforming until now. Still haven't gotten a citadel in the bloody wench, but I'm happy to have her in my fleet.

As you should be. The Colorado is a fickle lass. In time she will forgive you for your errors in judgement and only then will you start seeing citadels again

That would require me having gotten a citadel to begin with.

The Colorado can be a pretty good ship, and she has some of the best armor in the game.

My only real issue with her is that her HP is still on the low side of BBs at her Tier. While the extra armor may help against AP shots, she can be burnt down at a rather frustrating rate thanks to her more than shallow HP pool.

She's still one of my favorite BBs, I like her more than the New Mexico.

You left the Taiho alive to warn all other ships about the Colorado

I was witness to your heresy thread, I know that before that thread you were probably muttering nasty things under your breath at her. Like I said, Colorado is a fickle woman.

I used to tell myself a Colorado is never late, nor is she ever early. She arrives precisely when she means to.

When I was left alone to fend a flank, I would type this into global:

I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark torps will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing I learned in my Colorado is: landing 6 penetration consistently per salvo is more valuable than the odd citadel. Colorado is all about consistency while the Nagato is about the "surprise, your dead, and so am I" factor

Yeah, most BBs' stock guns are terrible.  I bounced 4 of 9 shells on a Pensacola broadside to me at 4km in my stock Izumo, missed 3, and got 2 normal pens.

yup yup. I'd heard so many horror stories about the Colorado while working my way up the USN BB tree. I wasn't looking forward to the grind and the day finally came. My first time out with her, I went full stock and she delivered the goods. I was pushing with my cruisers and even hunting destroyers. She was fun and I had many epic matches with her.

while the Nagato is about the "surprise, your dead, and so am I" factor

I found that to be rather contrary; Nagato is more "Boom. Citadel." what with her having high enough accuracy to make relatively consistent shots at range.  Brawling is Colorado's thing, and she can hold an advance for a short time if the commander is competent, but Nagato is more of a legit sniper.

Now Fuso on the other hand is more along the lines of "surprise, you're dead, and so am I", what with her low speed, trademark citadel and wildly inaccurate guns.

The reason why I say the "surprise, you're dead, and so am I"  is mostly down to the fact that Destroyers had a habit of appearing around the islands I was ambushing from. I am not great at judging where a ship will be when my shells land at max range, so I spec to brawl with all my battleships. It's damn hard to miss a cruiser at 15Km,but for me it's damn near impossible to hit more than 1-2 shells in a salvo at 20Km

One thing often overlooked is the gun upgrade.  The USN doesn't have a 15in BB.  The line goes from 14 to 16.  The CO is the first one to get the 16 inchers. So you will get those cits.  Also, it can shoot all eight toward the front with less angle (i.e., less broadside) than the NC nine.

Also, once fully upgraded, the AAA is pretty good!

Nice game.... But pardon my scepticism,  a single game has completely changed your opinion on a ship you felt strongly enough about to post a thread bemoaning its downsides?

I freaking love my Colorado.

Great AA, relatively quick turrets/RoF & adequate range, the 16" guns hit real hard :red_button:

It was the only game I did good that I actually won.

You do realise fire damage is percentage-based, no?

Light any two ships on fire at exactly the same time. If the fires don't go out, both ships will sink at exactly the same time.

The Colorado literally takes less fire damage (expressed as a HP amount) per second than the Nagato.

Where the Colorado suffers in comparison IS from HE shells, but the nibbling to death by ducks of the HP damage, not the fires.

Yeah, same question here.

I had maybe three outstanding games in the Colorado, the rest being absolutely migraine inducing, even fully upgraded.  Some of it was the ship, some of it was me, but still.  Those rare good games were never going to be enough to change my mind about a ship that I eventually grew to hate using, despite my initial determination to like her and be "gud" in her when first purchased.

I can honestly say that the Colorado we have now are leaps and bounds ahead of the one we had in CBT.

That ship was painful to play in CBT and was generally considered a downgrade in all respects to the New Mexico.

While it's HP is still lower than the New Mexico's, it's not so much a downgrade as more of a side step now, where you trade off a few things from the NM (losing 4 guns and HP) you gain the 16" guns and better armour (plus the better self heal).

It honestly well in this case, as I didn't feel like I did playing her now like I did in CBT. I actually really enjoyed playing the Colorado in live and after her changes, where as I really didn't like it at all in the CBT.

IJN doesn't get 15-inch guns either.

The Fuso still rocks the 356 mm cannons, IIRC. Then it's straight into the Nagato with 410 mms.

Anyone who thinks the Colorado is bad needs to do some soul searching. The problem is that you don't know how to aim as well as you think you do. The Colorado is sickeningly accurate out to 19km.

Yes, she has an abismal hp pool at T7. Yes, she is coated in gasoline and burns like a torch. Yes, she is slow as molasses. All of that is just to compensate for its accuracy. Up until T7 at least, it's the only American BB that isn't absurdly inaccurate with the range mod fitted.

I'm not saying that I'm good enough to do well consistently, but I've noticed that the more you play her and only her, after 2-3 games you'll subconsciously remember her shell travel time because it's MUCH different than the new mex.

For the skeptics out there, here's the first game in the Colorado I had today. Another good game, by my standards at least. I'm a pretty poor player so this is what I consider a good game.
