What I mean by counters is something simple like two displays somewhere unobtrusive on the UI, perhaps as simple as "X/Y AA" and "X/Y SB" where X is the number of active guns and Y the total number available to your ship in an undamaged state.

 

As things stand, these are the only guns you have to visibly inspect to see if they're still in operation and that kind of information would be nice to have at a glance. My opinion, of course.

That would be helpful...you'd only know that your AA/secondary has been destroyed when all of it, on your entire ship, has been destroyed as it stands.

Yes. Also be able to mouse over it to see your stats/ranges/etc, like you can with main guns and torpedoes.

It's a minor addition but in my opinion anything that helps players understand what is going on in game is worth adding.

I'd like that too. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible just to see what people think of the general concept.

That would be nice to have. Then I wouldn't have to visually inspect my ship and see how many AA mounts are burnt up and THEN ask some other ship if he can help me with AA.

That is fairly a good idea. A simple text readout like this

152m 5/12

4.1 2/4 

40mm 1/4

 

Which say 5 152mm mounts remain out of 12, 2 4,1" mounts remain out of 2, and 1 40mm mount remain out of 4. As an option, have to be turn on by player, off by default.

I think it's mostly only useful on ships with casemate turrets, because those have very poor firing arcs.

 

On ships with modern turrets, you have to be mostly broadside to use them, so it's easy remembering that if they are firing, you're broadside.

It's not just for the secondaries but for AA emplacements too. You would want to know how much of the AA emplacements on your ship are left and whenever you'll need to avoid aircraft when alone.

I would like an overlay on top of the ship icon in game:

Which shows the active the guns are as well. Green being all guns are fine, yellow being light gun damage, orange being have gun damage, red being all guns are destroyed. This could be fore secondaries and/or AA. Which would go great with a number of guns remanding so you know your ships current effective AA and secondaries

in that case, yeah, it's pretty useful.

 

Best way to do it, is just represent the ship's current AA effectiveness as a percentage.

Simple: just one number for all AAA

Complex: multiple numbers, one per set of AAA guns.

 

example:

5km 50%

3.5km 70%

2km 20%

Even when I inspect my ship, I can't tell if my AA are still working.  After taking a bunch of fires, the hull is roasted black.

Yes, but I'd like the option to shift my ship's damage indicator between main guns/torpedo tubes and secondaries/AA so it'd be something that I can look at a glance and I'd be able to see which side of my ship still has some AA/Secondary protection, so that I don't present the wrong side over.  Secondaries are dependent on whether or not the targets are within their angle of fire and range, though I'm not sure about AA.

It would definitely be a useful tool, instead of having to manually count the number of working guns (some ships have quite the large amount of primaries, and or secondaries) you could merely look at the counter, and see how many remain. 

I approve of the idea~! 

 Hue...before reading the post itself, I thought you mean something to counter the Secondaries/AA...oops.

Only the secondaries are dependent ON their placement. AA emplacements doesn't care WHERE they are on your ship, they all have 360 degree auras.
