8 Lt_Andrev Members 300 posts Report post #1 Posted September 25, 2012 OK, I've asked KGB (Q&A topic) about few words of possible maps, so now we know: There will be no "clear" ocean maps. It means, that: each map will include islands or part of lands (peninsula in US?), each map will include shallow sea bottom, Maps will be not extremely deep (view of sea bottom) - developers will provide no dark water at high deep (when we will admire with our wrecks on bottom). So, to help developers please sent proposal of your maps, especially with altitudes, colors and deeps lines! FIORDS Map bases on real mountain terrain on Finland/Sweden border. Many traps for enemy team and for ships (swallows).

2,138 JeeWeeJ Members 3,591 posts Report post #4 Posted September 25, 2012 To be honest, i'd like to see one "open sea" map. Just to give the proper jutland feeling. Fleet vs fleet, with nothing but your own armor to hide behind. :Smile_izmena: Add some atlantic/north sea weather effects (reduced visibility due to fog or rain) and one big gunfight is the result! The fjords map is also a good idea though!

87 Gigaton Members 533 posts Report post #7 Posted September 25, 2012 The "We heard you liked maps with chokepoints so we made a map with a nice chokepoint" map: Not apparent from the picture, but the strait is 800m wide. Also a perfect setting for any Peru-Bolivian naval epics.

Close enough that one shore can be seen from the other. Think of the fun to be had trying to deny access to the Atlantic, or the Mediterranean. Battle of Trafalgar, Nelson, ring any bells? Never happened... Fairy tale to make French small sailor children to eat their soup."Eat your soup or Nelson will come..." It has since then been banned as a cruel practice. 145 Chiyeko Beta Testers 706 posts 551 battles Report post #13 Posted September 25, 2012 I am hoping for 1 open water map indeed, though I understand why they are not included. However hardly can go without the following map I say, plenty of hiding spots for carries, sneaky routes for fast ships and a clear center brawl area.

87 Gigaton Members 533 posts Report post #17 Posted September 25, 2012 I think it's as good as given that we'll see a map modelled after these environs: Eyeless_Camper, on 25 September 2012 - 06:14 PM, said: Just a question, about the Great lakes one. It takes days to navigate the St. Lawrence Seaway to get to the Mackinaw Straits from the Atlantic. Then you have to render all of those pixalized zebra mussels. Best forget about that one. :Smile-_tongue:

8 Lt_Andrev Members 300 posts Report post #22 Posted September 25, 2012 Nagai Islands (part of Aleutian islands ?) may be a good choice: - winter / hard environment - high cloudy region - wastelands with high mountains (near 1000 meters high = ... what a imperial unit is it? yards? feet?) - different ways to attack
197 [-YK-] RMS_Gigantic Beta Testers 847 posts 20,206 battles Report post #23 Posted September 25, 2012 If you're going to call the map Fjords, World of Tanks' map "Fjords" better be somewhere in there! Speaking of which, we're not very likely to see real life locations, but rather settings loosely based on real life locations. For example, we might not see the Straight of Gibralter, but rather a map with the World of Warplanes map Lighthouse (with subsequent World of Tanks maps Cliff and Fisherman's Bay), which is based on the Thames Estuary, on the north side of the field with a map representing France on the other. Let us not forget when making fan-made maps that many in-game maps will likely incorporate World of Tanks and World of Warplanes maps into them. If you're going to include a World of Warplanes map, though, you may want to find somewhere that mentions it so that you don't risk violating the NDA. For example, there is a Developer's Diary that mentions a map called Pacific, and shows footage of it.... From there, World of Tanks maps are roughly in the range of 1×1 kilometer (some are larger, some are smaller), and World of Warplanes are roughly 15×15 kilometers. World of Warships maps will be roughly 50×50 kilometers.
