Karma points in profile...what is it for?

Can someone please tell me what the Karma points are good for.  I did a quick search in forums and can not find anything that gives information on this karma system.

Not a big deal I am just curious as to what purpose it serves.

Thanks in advance for any info you can find on this.

The point come from the Report/Complement system. I think Complements give you points and Reports take points away. At the moment there is nothing connected with having them. Though it has been said they want to add stuff to the game that rewards players for having high good Karma. But its point less as of now lol.

It's a new feature. It shows the difference between positive and negative reports people might post for you in battle.

For the moment AFAIK it serves no real purpose, maybe it will in the future.

I wouldn't get too worked up with it.  In a nutshell, you start at 0.  Players that compliment you in some way boost your score.  Players that 'report' you subtract from your score.  Your karma rating can never dip below zero, and theoretically high karma players will get rewarded with something.

Basically, if you play well you may get a karma boost.  Not likely though.  Dominate a match and you'll get called a hacker and more than likely have some people report you for something.  It's hilariously subjective and ultimately meaningless and not something you have large control over.  While I have no evidence to back it up, I'm certain the chronic T/Kr's get reported every match (plays bad?) and they're still hanging around.

If it does matter to you just do your best, be civil in chat, and maybe someone will take the extra few clicks in the post-game to acknowledge your positive contributions and bump your score up.  I try to when someone plays well or helps in chat.  If everyone did I think we'd have a better community overall -  and I think that was WG's intent for its implementation.

I use both the report and complements as much as I can. 1 complement  is one up to the players karma, 2 reports is a one down to their karma. Right now, they are just numbers that say "hey people tend to think you are a good/helpful player". In the future WG has said they will reward people with positive Karma. How no one knows right now.

If you have positive karma, it's always interesting to check it after a good battle. I had a nice Amagi match a few hours ago and came out to two less karma. Only asked if people were going to a specific cap point in the beginning too...though I did avoid a Fletcher's torps the whole match and then kill him when he tried to off our Mogami at the end.

The system is imperfect. Too many people have an itchy trigger finger to report you, but compliments even on solo hard carry are few and far between.

IMHO some changes would be good, along the following lines:

1. Make it easier to discover the compliment/report feature. Many players have no idea it even exists. Right-click context menus are not discoverable enough. Any UI designer will tell you it's true.

2. Suggest complimenting specific top carry players, if any, after the battle. Perhaps with a pop-up or something like that.

3. Suggest reporting specific AFK players / low contributors in top tier ships, if any. Again, a pop-up will do.

4. Increase the threshold for negative points from 2 reports per match to 5 reports per match now that the report feature is hopefully easily discoverable.

5. Display (and color code) a player's karma to them in port, in plain sight.

This would make for a more dynamic karma system with some legitimate bragging rights.

I don't know about a pop up or anything like that. Honestly, I only recently started diving with anyone, as I only have but a handful of team battles and a couple of div matches here and there (literally handful) and my current karma is 124. /shrug

I just don't talk down to people, arm chair anyone after I'm dead/before the game/during the game, as primarily a solo player I try to support everyone and just put myself where Im needed most depending on the ship/class I'm in. Seems to have paid off with regards to this. Not that there are rewards for it atm, but a pop up after the match would at least to me, be a bit annoying.

For new comers, idk, maybe a quick description built into a level unlock as they go through if it's not there already.

Edit: Got a notification and realized a typo. My number is 124, not 24. lol Fixed it.

You must a very nice person because you're clearly winning the popularity contest :)

I haven't been reported or complimented in months and I'm sitting at zero last time I bothered to check.

Is there any way to view your karma??

How do you check your karma point?

Go to your Profile in the game's client, and check Service Record. It'll be the little number to the right of your name!

I for one have publicly admitted before to having a short temper when it comes to a) gloating, and b) tactical idiocy. I don't cross the line but I do imply lack of mental capacity in people on occasion :)

However this doesn't happen every match. One would expect there to be some compliments and some reports resulting from chat activity and weak/strong play, but I see neither.

any reasonable UI specialist would have put it as a line entry in your profile

instead of an unlabeled phantom number by your name - in a very particular sub display

It's likely to be deliberate if they don't quite know what to do with it yet.

I'm surprised I have 12 positive karma. Given the level of toxicity I spew in the chat, it's a miracle I have positive karma at all.

I always try to use up my daily quota of complments.

You and I live in totally different worlds. I have literally never given any complement. Not once. Only reports. Back when the wot forums had downvotes, I made absolutely sure to use up my entire downvote quota every day, and always on perfectly civil and helpful posts.

It's another WoT-style popularity contest.  All the bros will get their forum friends to broseph up and give them compliments while playing with or against them in the game.  Nothing more; nothing less.

I think the player with the most points gets to be the Homecoming King or something.

The karma system's really nothing special, in my opinion.

People have a tendency to focus on the negative, and sometimes like to scapegoat. As such, it's much easier to lose karma because people are going to slam you for much, much smaller things. On the other hand, good gameplay will not go noticed, whether it's because people will be leaving the match early, or even chastising the surviving player for "being a coward" (even though they might have been slamming home shells all game).

Its probably because it doesnt actually do anything yet. If it becomes meaningful in the future im sure attention will be drawn to it.

All I see this as is just one more way for the system to shame. Like Rion12 said people are just focused on the negative and the only way they feel compelled to use the system is if they are mad at you. Sadly it is far to easy any more these days to offend or other wise make someone feel uncomfortable and all this does is help them feel better about themselves.

Reviving this....

I hope that the karma system never becomes meaningful, because it is both abused and 100% subjective. Every time I play CV lately and play strike, people have tantrums about me not having fighters whether we win or lose.... Literally, every game. People let me know in game that they are reporting me some times.... It's absurd.

MY God i wanna +1 you just for saying this. I am the same way. and see my Karma points as a achievement in this game. Sure youtubers and twitch streamers may have alot more but that is to be expected and therefore should be addressed IF possible. If not more power to them and it only impresses more emphasis on its purpose.

I love the Karma system as this game relies heavy on its community of players. and if at the least can provide meaningful information to our developers IFimplemented correctly
