AA Graphics Not Awesome Anymore?

What happened to all the cool AA graphics?  I haven't played this game in a few months and came back recently and noticed the AA graphics are not as awesome as they previously were.  Previously once a plane entered within range all these tracers went up all over the place-- seemed like everyone on deck with a gun was shooting.  Now all those cool tracer effects are gone with just a few showing.

That was like the best part of the game graphics-- so why is it gone now??

And yes I have same settings as before, everything highest possible with animate small objects ON.

1. Are you using the same ship?

2. Some ships have been nerfed in terms of AA in the last few patches

3. Other

In my opinion, AA effects were never awesome and always lackluster.  Even with Animate Small Objects on and maxed out graphics settings.

I'm using the Nagato now.  I'm basing off what I saw with Kongo.  So maybe it's that?  But Nagato AA score is higher than Kongo AA score so I thought it would be visually better graphics?

I thought this was the case, but figured it was just me. Maybe it has been coincidental, but it seems like aa graphics (and sounds, if I may add to the op) used to be much more furious. This might have gotten scaled back to reduce processing load, but if that's the case it would be nice to have it as an option for strong gaming PCs that can handle it, just like all the other variable sound/graphics settings.

Yeah you said the right word to describe-- used to be more "furious" for sure.  I would also like that option back for higher end gaming PCs that can handle those effects.

I loved how flak was done in the old-timey simulator, IL-2 Sturmovik - Pacific Fighters.  Individual gun mounts going off.  Insane amounts of tracer fire.

If only WG would follow in those footsteps...  AA is supposed to fill the sky with flak and tracers, not the occasions bursts of tracers and puff of smoke here and there.  I know they can do better than what they have done.

(relentless anti-aircraft gunfire at 11:30)

That's what I remember. Now, my 100 AA rating North Carolina with fifty billion AA guns sounds like it only has a single machine gun shooting at planes. That's what the Imperator should sound like, since its AA armament basically IS just one machine gun. I want the old sounds/tracer visuals back.

I thought it was just a sailor with a PPsh

OP has a good point. I've wondered myself about AA animation after the past couple patches. It was awesome before on my Pensa (God rest his soul) a plane would come into range an AA would start blasting away, there were shells all over, it was beautiful.

AA effects were never that good to begin with in this game yet for some reason they made them worse a few patches ago.

I'd like to eventually see a check box or a sliding scale under graphic's setting specifically for AA and how much stuff is flying around in the air.

Agreed, current AA is underwhelming. AA graphic adjustment would help with immersion for those with more capable machines.

Yeah exactly- that's what I remember happening with the AA graphics. It was insane. Kind of almost made you want the torp bombers to venture your way (kinda but not really). It was like Baghdad AA that night in Gulf War... Now I'm the captain of my BB and I feel like half my AA personnel are asleep. I used to play Navy Field- yeah piss poor graphics, but once the opposing team's carrier planes came over all freakin' hell broke loose. Everyone and their kid sister was throwing something up in the sky. C'mon let's get those graphics back!!

This is what I and many other testers expected when we first started this game, and this is from an old game :D

check your graphics settings. If you play at a higher setting you might see more tracer fire. But i agree, i just love huge amounts of AA tracer fire going off everywhere.

I have graphics at it's highest, it was a veritable field of AA fire in CBT, now we get one set of AA for the big, one for the medium and one for the small AA guns, it's no longer walls of lead, I get that rusisan players have potato comps but give us in the more developed world better visuals.

They should bring the effects back or have it as a choice for effects. Mine and a lot of other players comps can handle it. I dunno why they took those graphics away (or subdued them heavily).

They're back in 5.5! Because we whined on this thread! (..ok, maybe not. But I'll still take it.) Thanks devs!
