Intentionally damaging vehicles belonging to a player on the same team (team damage).   4.02. Intentionally destroying vehicles belonging to a player on the same team (team kill).   4.03. Intentionally blocking (blocking from front and rear) vehicles belonging to a player on the same team.   4.04. Intentionally propping (blocking on one side, where the other side of a user's vehicle touches a fixed indestructible obstacle, preventing free movement.) vehicles belonging to a player on the same team.   4.05. Intentionally informing participants of the opposing team through battle, or voice chat, the location of vehicles belonging to players of the same team.   4.06. Using bots, clickers, macros, keyboard and mouse recorders, or any other similar methods to accumulate credits and experience without the participation or with passive participation of the player within the battle. (Excessive and repetitive passive play)   5. Rules Enforcement   The "Automated Anti-TD/TK Reporting System" is the system that actively scans the game logs searching for players who massively cause damage to vehicles of their own team (team damage), or intentionally destroy vehicles of their teammates (team kill).   Please note that the Automated Anti-TD/TK Reporting System is not available in certain Games, for instance, World of Tanks Blitz, World of Warplanes and World of Warships. In such cases, please contact us through https://na.wargaming.net/support/.   5.01. Based on combat logs for a particular period of time, usually several days, the automated system finds players involved in friendly fire and team kill incidents. The calculations are quite complicated and the main factor that is taken into account is damage inflicted to allies to total damage ratio.   5.02. If the above ratio for a particular user exceeds a certain fixed threshold value, the system identifies the user as a violator, since his main target is doing damage to allied vehicles.   5.03. If the damage ratio for such user exceeds the verifying coefficient, introduced in order to make distinction between intentional and accidental team killers, such user is identified as an offender and goes onto the suspension list.   5.04. While calculating damage to allies / total damage ratio only the battles with team kill/damage incidents are taken into account.   5.05. In connection with the introduction of Automated Anti-TK Reporting System), listed below are set uniform measures that can be taken against offenders:*. First detection of a user as a team killer and team-damager leads to 1 hour game account suspension.*. Second detection of a user as a team killer and team-damager (recidivism) leads to 1 day game account suspension.*. Multiple detections of a user as a team killer and team-damager (systemic recidivism) will resort in escalating suspensions leading to a PERMANENT game account suspension. The "Automated Anti-Bot Reporting System" is the system that actively scans the game logs searching for players who use automated bots, clickers, macros, keyboard and mouse recorders, or any other similar methods to accumulate credits and experience without the participation or with passive participation of the player.   5.06. In the case of detection of single or short-term signs of use of automated scripts (bot software) in user’s logs, user’s account is taken under thorough control by the administration. The owner of the account can be informed by special notifications sent to the registered e-mail.   5.07. In case of detection of signs of massive or overt use of automated scripts or botting software in user’s logs, the user’s account is suspended permanently, with a possibility of suspension being lifted in the future, after the administration conducts a complete rollback of vehicles, achievements, funds (credits) and research except premium tanks, premium consumables, premium shells and gold.   5.08. Automated Anti-Bot Reporting System is not meant to substitute the Technical Support service, the system aims at making their work easier. The most difficult cases thereby will be solved individually via Technical Support service.   6. Reporting in-game violations In certain Games you will be able to use the Automated Anti-TK Reporting System. In this case, an automated system of violations tracking (team damage, team kill) will operate and the administration draws your attention to the following information - with the introduction of this system, users’ complaints about the above mentioned violations will not be considered. From now on all punishments for team damage and team kill incidents will be executed automatically without support service workers' interference. The system has been customized, tested multiple times and currently works correctly. We also draw your attention to the fact that a multitude of all possible circumstances accompanying different violations (including extenuating and aggravating ones) has been taken into consideration. All requests relating to ban cancellation or minimizing the punishment period, laid by the system, will be ignored. Additional information on the automated system of team killers and bot users tracking you will find on this page: Automated Anti-TK Reporting System   7. Official Language   7.01. General chat: The preferred language of the In Game Garage Chat & Company lobby (or General Chat in World of Tanks Blitz)  is any of our supported languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese). Players who wish to communicate in their native language are urged to do so in channels created specifically for their language.   7.02. In Game Battles and other In Game Chats: The preferred language is English, however non-English is allowed. Please be patient with players whose first language may not be your own. Please note that chat channels are not available in World of Tanks Blitz.   8. Important/Miscellaneous 8.01. Repeated violations any area of these Rules or the EULA, including the areas detailed above, will often result in permanent suspension from the game and/or forums. 8.02. The following is aimed at new(ish) players looking to find a little more information about various ships from events, for premium currency or for real-world cash.  The goal is to allow players to make an educated decision before parting with their time and money and to find premium vessels that suit their chosen style of play, whether that is competitive, cooperative, or simply for fun.  The idea here is to elabourate on information not commonly available through reading statistics and provide some (heavily) biased anecdotal evidence to encourage or dissuade you from making your purchase.  The usual disclaimers apply:  everyone knows the Matchmaker clearly loves me because I spend money so that's why I occasionally get really good games, not because I have any particular skills of note.

The Republic of China Navy Benson-class Destroyer

Lo Yang

Quick Summary:   A modified Benson-class Destroyer (the USS Benson, in fact) that can swap it's Engine Boost / Defensive Fire ability for a Hydroacoustic Search instead.  The Lo Yang has slightly less HP than the Benson while also having the option of two different torpedo armaments.

Cost:   Sold in bundles, starting at $49.99 USD for the ship, a port slot, 7 days premium time and 2000 doubloons.

PROs

  • Has the option of two different torpedo types -- one longer ranged, the other harder hitting and faster but with a shorter reach.
  • Has the option of using a Hydroacoustic Search consumable.
  • Very high rate of fire at 18rpm stock from her four guns.
  • Excellent turret rotation speed of nearly 34' per second.
  • Surprisingly good AA potential for a Destroyer
  • Excellent rudder shift time at 2.7s stock & small turning circle at 570m.
  • Can stealth-fire from open water at 10.3km with the proper module selection, even with a novice Captain.

CONs

  • Almost identical to the researched USN Benson-class (C-Hull) Destroyer
  • Guns are unmodified USN 127mm dual-purpose guns with horrible shell flight trajectories.
  • Shells have only a 5% chance to set targets ablaze and low hitting power.
  • Second set of torpedoes only have a 6km range, making them unable to fire effectively from stealth.
  • Does not have the increased Free-XP bonus found on the Anshan.
  • Expensive -- costs the same as 3 months worth of Premium Time.

Not just a Benson-class Destroyer, she is the Benson-class Destroyer.  The lead of her class, sold to the Republic of China and renamed, it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that she is very similar (almost identical) to the tech-tree version of the Benson-class Destroyer for the United States Navy.  There are minor differences, however.

The Full Review

At first glance, the Lo Yang appears to be identical to the USN Benson-class (C-Hull) Destroyer found at tier 8 in the American tech tree.  It's not an unfair assumption and she is near identical to this researched vessel but with a few exceptions -- and not all of them for the better.  This is, of course, balanced by her increased credit earning potential as a premium ship.  With the $50 USD asking price for this ship, the question becomes if she's a worthwhile purchase like the Anshan or is there not enough making her different to warrant her cost?

Primary Armament

The Lo Yang is armed with four USN 127mm/38 Mk30 dual purpose guns.  They are mounted in a favourable bow & stern superfiring arrangement with a pair of guns forward and and pair aft. These are the same guns found on the Sims, Benson and Fletcher, matching them in all regards.  This gives them a very impressive rate of fire of 18rpm (just slightly less than the 20rpm found on the C-Hull of the Benson) and tremendously quick turret rotation speed of almost 34' per second.  This comes at the cost of the usual horrible shell flight time mechanics found on all US Destroyers from the upgraded Nicholas on up (and plagues the USS Atlanta as well) which makes hitting targets outside of 11km difficult at best.  She also shares their weak HE performance including an anemic 5% base chance to set fires per shell.

It should be noted that the Lo Yang, like the Benson, can stealth-fire from open water, even without an experienced Captain, so long as the Concealment Modifcation I is selected.  This gives her the ability to stealth fire from 10.3km, well outside her 11.6km stock range.  As nice as this appears on paper, be aware that the modest hitting power of her high explosive shells will mean many zero damage hits against Battleship targets -- which are about the only thing you'll accurately hit that far out.  You won't stack fires quickly either which further reduces her damage potential against capital ships.

2h51n6g.jpg

Providing close support for this friendly Cleveland, both ships focus down a beached IJN Hatsuharu-class Destroyer with rapid fire USN rifles.

Secondary Armament

The Lo Yang joins the Anshan and the Sims in having the option of mounting two different types of torpedo armaments.  This is a heavy torpedo armament to be clear.  She has two dorsally mounted quintuple launchers.  The first torpedo selection s identical to the stock torpedoes found on the USN Benson-class Destroyer.  These have a 9.2km range -- ideal for engaging targets from concealment but move at a slow 55 knots and only strike for 11,600 damage.  This is thankfully better than those found on the tier 7 Sims, but not by very much.  The second set are a shorter ranged variety, reaching out only to 6.0km but with a blistering fast top speed of 68 knots and a heavier warhead doing 16,633 damage.

Conceivably, with a fully upgraded Captain it would be possible to launch even the shorter ranged torpedoes from stealth (with a tiny 60m window of opportunity), but in the practical sense, this second set of torpedoes would only be useful in an ambush or point-blank engagement range.  The choice between the two torpedo types comes down to a matter of preference in playstyle, but the longer ranged torpedoes are likely to find more use simply from their flexibility standpoint.  Still, I applaud Wargaming for giving us a less-than-obvious choice.  The higher alpha strike of the shorter ranged fish, combined with their top speed does provide us with a decision -- something that is often in short supply when options don't feel like options at all.

All this said, though, the 55 knot, 9.2km 16,633 alpha damage torpedoes found on the Benson are simply better than either of these choices and I wouldn't consider the Lo Yang as having a "good" torpedo armament.  Decent?  Sure.  But not "good".

2e0ihck.jpg

This Admiral Hipper gets caught out by the 68 knot short-ranged torpedoes from the Lo Yang, giving her almost no time to dodge.

Maneuverability

The agility of the Lo Yang is excellent matching the Type-C Hull of the USN Benson-class Destroyer.  This gives her a tiny 570m turning circle with a 2.7s rudder shift time.  Even with this fast handling, her very quick turret rotation of nearly 34' per second means that no matter how you through your ship about, you'll almost always be able to lock two guns onto your target.  This makes the Lo Yang a very dangerous opponent in close ranged knife fights, especially when armed with her 68 knot torpedo armament too.  When equipped with a Rudder-Shift upgrade, this drops down to 2.1s.

Her top speed is good at 38.0 knots, putting her ahead of the IJN Destroyers but behind those of the Soviet Navy.   Even in a tight turn, she'll preserve her speed, managing just over 30 knots even when throwing herself about defensively.  Her flat out maximum speed is sufficient to keep her ahead of any IJN Heavy Cruisers she may encounter, including the IJN Atago though only just.  This is important to keep in mind when sacrificing her Speed Boost consumable for one of the other two options -- she may lose that extra edge in top speed to keep her ahead of the wolves.

Durability & Defense

As can be expected with any destroyer, the Lo Yang is utterly lacking in armour and hit points.  This is one of the rare occurrences where the Lo Yang differs from the Benson-class Destroyer in that she has less hit points than the fully upgraded (C-Hull) Benson at 14,600 vs 15,400 of the USN Destroyer.  This isn't much, obviously -- not even really enough to mention if it weren't for one of the few "flavourful" differences between the two vessels.  This is hardly enough to differentiate the two ships gameplay wise, however, and it's disappointing to see this as one of the rare variables that is supposed to define her.

Otherwise, the Lo Yang is identical to the C-Hull Benson, including the rather impressive (for a Destroyer) AA compliment.  This is perhaps not too unsurprising.  One of the rare benefits of the USN Destroyer 127mm guns is their good AA performance.  To be fair, however, even upgraded with Captain Skills and modules, the Lo Yang is not going to be swatting down enemy attack-craft waves single handed.  You can expect, if you invest down these lines to be able to knock out a plane or two from same-tier squadrons loitering overhead.  Without upgrades, this is usually sufficient to shoot down a float-plane fighter or spotter aircraft from a nearby cruiser or Battleship.

The lifeblood of a Destroyer is her ability to hide herself.  The Lo Yang mirrors the Benson with a stock 7.4km surface detection range.  With her premium camouflage and the Concealment Modification I upgrade, this reduces down to a healthy 6.6km range.  This is still large when compared to the IJN Destroyers like the Fubuki and Kagero but this will give her the edge on engaging tier 7 ships (which cannot get the Concealment Modification) or the larger Soviet Destroyers.  With the Captain Skill, this can further reduce down to just below 6km even.

Interestingly, the Lo Yang has two options to replace her Speed Boost consumable.  The first isn't unexpected -- it's the same two charges of Defensive Fire found on other USN Destroyers.  This allows the Lo Yang to better perform the role of a Destroyer Escort, but as mentioned above, expect this to be supplementary anti-aircraft firepower on top of that provided by whichever big sister you're escorting rather than a power in its own right.  The second option allows her to swap this out for Hydroacoustic Search.  This has the same stats as those found on the USN and IJN Hydroacoustic Search (and not the better German versions) -- extending torpedo detection range by 2.52km and ship acquisition by 3.48km.

This last consumable will provide the Lo Yang with some highly desired flexibility, both in Team and Ranked Battles and shouldn't be underestimated for its usefulness.  This makes her an excellent scout and vanguard for her fleet, able to better keep eyes out for incoming long-range strikes when a CV isn't already present.

5jtahd.jpg

The Lo Yang, like most Destroyers, has the long legs to get to objectives far in advance of her team.  This can also leave her exposed.  Getting spotted early is the surest way to get sent back to your harbour quickly.

How to Kill It

Aside from her optional Hydroacoustic Search, the Lo Yang doesn't have any surprises up her sleeves to increase survivability.  Standard anti-destroyer tactics found in high tier games work as well against her as others of her type.  Battleships in particular should be weary of engaging the Lo Yang one on one, though they can rest a bit easier knowing her long range torpedoes don't hit nearly as hard.

  • When engaging the Lo Yang in a Destroyer, be very conscientious of her excellent knife fighting abilities.  She won't have as many guns as a B-Hull mounted Benson.  It's possible for her to have very fast (if short ranged) torpedoes capable of one-shotting most same-tier DDs.  If specialized as a destroyer hunter, she may also have a hydroacoustic search making her even more dangerous at sniffing out crippled destroyers within their own smoke screen.

  • For Cruisers engaging the Lo Yang, they can rest a bit easier with the knowledge that the hitting power of her long-ranged torpedoes caps out at just over 11,000 alpha.  She doesn't have any additional tricks above and beyond the usual meta.  Treat her the same way you would when facing other USN Destroyers like the Sims, Benson and Fletcher and you'll be in good shape.  Her torpedoes have over a minute reload and the accuracy of her guns falls away over 10km distant.  Be aware that she can stealth fire from 10.3km out, even without an experienced Captain.

  •  Battleships should be wary of two traits from the Lo Yang.  The first is her ability to harass from a stealth firing position of 10.3km out.  This is still within an easy lead time for her guns and she can rain an incessant hail of 127mm shells onto your ship.  It's difficult for her to be accurate, though, so you don't need to worry as much about her being able to walk the shells across your deck.  Fires will be incidental.  Wait for two to light before using your Damage Control Party.  Her long-range torpedoes do not hit very hard, but she has a lot of them.  Present your stern towards areas you know the Lo Yang to be operating if you find yourself alone.

  • For Carriers, the Lo Yang should be treated like any other high-tier destroyer.  They are exceedingly vulnerable when they're spotted.  And though the Lo Yang can sport some rather nice AA firepower for a Destroyer, you can anticipate losing only a couple of planes to her on a normal attack run if she's specialized in AA.

166al9y.jpg

The Lo Yang is an agile little Destroyer, making her quite the nuisance to pick off with Dive Bombers and Torpedo Bombers when she's not caught unawares.  Carriers shouldn't worry about losing planes when making attack runs against the Lo Yang unless she's specifically kitted out for anti-aircraft duties.  Then you can expect to lose a plane or two from same-tier attack craft waves.  Lower tiered carriers should be more cautious.

Overall Impressions

The Lo Yang is only superficially different to the C-Hull Benson -- so close is she that for all intents and purposes, the majority of player won't see it.  Where she stands out, where her utility improves over that of the American version is her Hydroacoustic Search.  This makes the Lo Yang a little more flexible and, as a result, desirable in a competitive play environment.  If the meta of Ranked Battles remains the same as it was in Season 3, I predict we will see the Lo Yang being considered a favourite for anti-destroyer use.  To be fair, she trades out one turret (or 2rpm depending on if you prefer the Benson's B or C hull), long range torpedo alpha and her speed boost for a different consumable, but I personally think it will be one that's considered worthwhile in certain builds.  However, this consumable choice probably won't be enough to make her a better choice over the Benson in Random Battles.

In terms of credit earning potential, she's not bad.  A base 1000xp win will earn you about 150,000 to 160,000 credits (before premium).  Be careful, though, the Lo Yang isn't inexpensive to repair, costing 69,000 credits to dredge her up from the bottom of the ocean when she's sunk.

The exact differences between the two ships are as follows (values in brackets are Lo Yang vs C-Hull Benson)

  • Lo Yang can swap out Speed Boost for Hydroacoustic Search instead of just Defensive Fire.
  • Lo Yang can take faster, shorter range torpedoes (68 knots at 6km vs 55 knots at 9.2km).
  • Lo Yang has her Premium camouflage.
  • Benson has a higher rate of fire (18rpm vs 20rpm)
  • Benson has more hit points (14,600 vs 15,400)
  • Benson has harder hitting long-range torpedoes (11,600 alpha vs 16,633 alpha)

Would I recommend?   If you want a $50 USD premium version of the Benson-class Destroyer (C-Hull), sure.  She's a great ship.
Just be aware of her shortcomings.  She cannot be used as a trainer for your USN Captains.  Her torpedoes are not as good.  If you're clear on these two points and the thought of this ship still appeals, go for it.

Recommended Modules:  As a potential Destroyer Escort / Destroyer Hunter, this gives you the option of a few different equipment layouts to maximize your options.

  • For your first slot, Main Battery Modification 1 is arguably your best choice.  This keeps your guns in the game and your ship less explody.  Which is nice.
  • For your second slot, you have a couple of options.  If you're intending to focus as a gunship, Gun Fire Control System Modification 1 is your best option to reduce the dispersion of her guns.  If you intend to play as a Destroyer Escort, you may want to consider AA Gun Battery Modification 2 to increase the range of your flak umbrella.
  • For your third slot, Propulsion Modification 1 is the best choice.  An immobilized Destroyer is a dead Destroyer.  Note that with the Captain Skill changes in 0.5.3 this is less of an imperative with the ease at which Last Stand is available.
  • For your fourth slot, Steering Gear Modification 2 will reduce your rudder shift time from 2.7s down to 2.1s (we're just getting silly at this stage).
  • And for your fifth slot, you again have two choices depending on your role.  For a dedicated Destroyer Escort, Target Acquisition System Modification 1 is valuable to increase your detection range of incoming torpedoes to alert the capital ships behind you. For any other role, Concealment System Modification 1 is better to reduce your surface detection down to 6.6km and allowing you to stealth fire from the surface at 10.3km.

Recommended Consumables:   As with all Destroyers, I strongly recommend using the premium version of the Damage Control Party consumable -- especially if you intend to be up front and knife fighting in a competitive environment.  This will reduce your reset timer on this consumable to 40s (from 60s).  Keep in mind that the premium versions of the other consumables will add an additional charge to their total, which can be invaluable for Smoke Generators, in addition to reducing their reset timer.

While Defensive Fire is obviously necessary for anti-aircraft roles, Hydroacoustic Search becomes a viable (and desirable) option in two situations.  The first is when you want to operate in an anti-destroyer capacity for your big ships, screening them from Hail-Mary torpedo strikes from enemy DDs.  It also has currency when playing in competitive environments like Ranked Battles where you can easily anticipate a close-range knife fight with other destroyers in almost every match played.  Otherwise, Engine Boost 1 has the most utility for most players.

Recommended Captain Skills:

Thankfully there is a lot of overlap between anti-aircraft and standard gunship roles for Destroyer Captains.

  • From tier 1, in 99% of the cases you will want Situational Awareness as your first choice.
  • From tier 2, Last Stand is an imperative for most Destroyers.  This will allow the Lo Yang to still make 30 knots even with her engine knocked out.
  • From tier 3, Superintendent is the best choice, giving you an additional charge from your Smoke Generators, but also for whatever you select as your 3rd consumable.
  • From tier 4, Advanced Fire Training is best.  It improves your AA umbrella for one but also the range of your main batteries, increasing your stealth-fire window.  This said, Demolition Expert is preferred for gunship Captains where the 11.6km range of the Lo Yang is considered sufficient.  For anti-Destroyer work, don't discount Survivability Expert for the additional HP which cap tip the scales in a DPM race against Soviet Destroyers.
  • From tier 5, Concealment Expert is most desirable, dropping your surface detection range to 6.0km in combination with other modules and camouflage.  This is often skipped by Destroyer Escorts looking to maximize their AA power, however.

Through your next pass, I would strongly recommend investing in Basic Fire Training to increase her rate of fire up to 19.8rpm.  In addition, this also increases her AA potency and should be the first skill grabbed after Advanced Fire Training by dedicated Destroyer Escorts.  Manual Fire Control for AA Armament should be next on the list for Destroyer Escorts, with the points left over put into Vigilance to increase the range at which she picks up torpedoes to give more time for her big friends to get out of the way.

Awwww, I didn't get a cameo :(

Although, I'd like to point out a small error; doesn't the C hull Benson get 20rpm stock?

I tried to find a good screenshot but you were 6km away when you esploded.  :(

And good question about the C-Hull.  Let's take a look.  I have the B-Hull unlocked on my Benson-class and I wasn't intending on researching the C for obvious reasons.  I merely click highlighted it when making my comparisons (I was shocked at how few there were).

You are correct.  It bumps up to 20rpm.  I'll make the edit.  Thanks for catching that.

I was about to ask a dumb question, then I realized what I was doing and stopped.

Good to know the capabilities of that new ship. I bet she's fun. Once I figured out how to Benson, I went from hating that thing, to daggon near worshiping it.

Wouldn't Survivability Expert at T4 be a viable option for a destroyer hunter killer role? The 400*8 presents 3200 HP for the Lo Yang, which is a lot when engaging in knife fights with other destroyers.

Last Lo Yang I went after ducked into a cloud, but some kind of glitch. I was only within 10 km in my Mogami and he was still visible half the time. Bugs with the stealth portion? Pointing out because it affects invisifiring.

Damn stealthy Kiev :(

I personally got the C hull because it was mandatory. However, I'd still acquire the C hull. IIRC, the C hull is the only configuration that allowed you to use Defensive Fire (when it came out). I still would choose to have the C hull just for that reason.

There is nothing more annoying that a scout plane or a dive bomber squadron. I use the Defensive Fire to rid myself of those problems (I'm guessing you've thought of this, as you are no fool). Yet you may say, "CVs hardly exist, there's no reason to have it." My reply is, "Almost all ships at this tier have a floatplane." The C hull allows you to remove the number one enemy of destroyers.

You may want to save your XP for the Fletcher, but the investment of a Defensive Fire consumable allows you to gain more xp per battle, as the thing that was killing you is destroyed. The C hull's investment quickly earns itself back.

Once again, great review as always LWM!  I want the Lo Yang, but not $50 worth of want.  Oh well, can still have fun in my Blys.

Hmmm...I was considering buying it, but after this review I think I'll pass.  I already have a Benson that I like quite a lot.  Why do I need another one?

I like your reviews, White Mouse.  Keep up the good work.

Good write up, I would agree that it is accurate. Thought as someone pointed out earlier I believe Tier 4 Survivability Expert is the better option than Advanced Fire Training. You already have decent blind fire distance, especially when you get a 15 point commander. Both can be considered viable options, I would at least mention it. That extra bit of HP really makes is a brawler against other ships such as the Udaloi and what not.

As someone who owns it as well, if you are thinking about getting it I would just say this: if you are someone who doesn't play a lot of the DD trees and would like to try it at a higher level, go for it. If you are reasonably close to getting the Benson from the US tree, save your money. Either way at some point you will have a fun ship to play, though the premium Tier 8 is one heck of a money maker.

Wouldn't Survivability Expert at T4 be a viable option for a destroyer hunter killer role? The 400*8 presents 3200 HP for the Lo Yang, which is a lot when engaging in knife fights with other destroyers.

Great suggestions, both of you.  Edited the main article to include that option.  Thank you for the feedback.  :)

I'm happy to take suggestions on what ship to look at next.

I wouldn't mind you attempting a singular thread containing all the new German Battleships or German Cruisers once they come out onto the public servers.

I bought it. Definitely over-priced, but I enjoy playing DDs.

The Hydro may not seem like a big deal, but that combined with the ridiculous rudder shift makes the Lo Yang the ultimate DD hunter. DDs can try and hide in their smoke, but with sonar up, they're never going to be able to torp you. I've only played 3 games so far, but managed to catch a couple of DDs who decided to hang in their smoke.

Eventually though I'm guessing people will learn and just run once they see a Lo Yang charging their smoke.

What's nice is if you play right, you can see them but they can't see you because of their own smoke. Gah, now you're making me reconsider...

Can you "premium" Hydro for a 40s cooldown?

Silly me for thinking that Lo Yang was with the ROCN, and not the RCN. I'm sure Canadians everywhere will be pleased with their first representative.

+1 Nice review btw. I'm swinging towards buying atm.
