What's with the broad Secondaries nerf?

Before I was pretty hyped for 'manual' secondaries and AA. Sounded like a huge game changer. I could get an extra skill that allows me to take control of the other weapons on the ship and use the gun I need when I need it?Sounds great. Okay. So I didn't get that, I never read the fine print, it is just a buff to the existing system of 'click on ship and let the AI do it.'

 

But whatever, that's small potato. But now all the abilities that buff secondaries are only 139mm+? So now the super fun Nagato floating fortress is gone? I can see them kicking out the 6 inch guns, but the 5inch and anything 140mm is now unaffected? Now do any skills affect 140mm? Was there a game-breaking abuse that was going on with 140mm guns? So many secondaries are those. Eeeh, this patch was advertised and pushed with a lot of really great stuff. Now while actually getting into it its just a pile of crap, and CV gameplay is still broken. Nothing fixed, plenty of nerfs.

OMG......the 139mm cutoff is only for primary armament (aka. CL nerf). The cutoff does not apply to secondaries.

You really should learn to read better.

 

Once you have learned that, then you can Extract your head from your own Forth Point of Contact.

The manual skill is also of questionable use until you get to tier 7+.  The +15% accuracy for tier 6 and below is hardly worth the ability to fire secondaries off both sides simultaneously.

You might have misread the skill descriptions...

Any skill that affects secondaries works on all of them regardless of calibre. It's only main batteries of 140mm or larger that don't benefit from BFT/AFT/EM anymore. The T5 secondary skill also looks like it'd be great with IJN ships. T8-10 get a 60% reduction in dispersion on the secondaries when a target is focused that's a pretty serious buff to the DPS they can do.

Exactly this. Once I've read that in patch notes, I immediately thought "no way I'm getting this for my Warspite".

 

Nagato, on the other hand... :)

It's not even fine print, it's right there in the tool tip and it was right there in the patch notes. This isn't just failing at reading, it's failing at even being bothered to attempt to do so and then complaining that it's someone else's fault.

 

FAIL.

 

Yep.  Simply mouse over the skill in the in-game Captain's Skills screen and the the details pop up right there in plain English.

That's correct.

BFT and AFT will function as they always did for secondary guns no matter what caliber.

 

In fact back when skills were first introduced, AFT and BFT stated something like 'Affects secondary guns and DD guns' as a blanket statement without any caliber sizes.

I'm guessing it's specifying the size now to keep the skill from affecting the German Narvik Destroyers with 15cm guns while still affecting the French 138mm destroyer guns if/when they're implemented.

That's correct. Read the patch notes, or the skill description in-client.

I'm sorry if I misread something and my request for clarification meant I deserved those kind of attacks. 

 

I found the wording confusing and noticed the range of my secondaries for ships to be initially confusing - then i saw posts where the Yuubari was considered nerfed due to its 140mm being nerfed. I thought it carried the smaller guns as primary and the larger 140 for its 'special' and prized AA armament. Since 140s are often the secondaries on later, larger ships I had jumped to conclusions. I can't help but feel some people are circling the forums waiting to crapon anyone who dare misread or make a mistake. And my horrible, stupid-person thread helped clarify things for someone else. So I guess that's nice. At least via my thread here someone got a clarification without it becoming a personal attack on them.
