Assuming the captain on your home IJN DD only has 15 point to use, how did you load out your skills? If you have two skills at the same level, pick one.

I'm particularly curious about those who chose Torpedo Acceleration. Seems like it was intended more for carriers. Also moving Last Stand up to Level 2 with Torpedo Armament Expertise, while giving carriers -20% on that seems like the goal was to revive the carrier population.

It would make for interesting IJN DD game play with CVs back in the mix if it weren't for aircraft spotting mechanics.

I might not have chosen Torp Accel, except for the fact that Benson's have 9.2 km torps @ 55... I usually miss outside of 7 km, so I felt I could give up the distance for the extra speed.

haven't setuip either benson or fubuki yet. 

 

for benson  (almost 14 at the moment)  setting up as  

BFT

LS

Vig

SE

CE

I lost TAE, and torps are going to miss more, but oh well.   I may go DE instead of SE .  

 

for fubuki  at 13 point    will reset at 15.

SA+BFT

LS+TAE

Vig+TA

 

15 point

SE or aft  (stealth fire)

Depends on whether you're dealing with a torp DD (IJN) or gun DD (USN/RUS) and what tier. My primary go-have-fun DD has become my Kamikaze-R. I went Situational Awareness (which is a slam dunk for all DDs at t1), Last Stand (I lose engine/steering easily, and rarely use guns except in close combat with another DD), Superintendent (it allows me to not have to conserve my smoke and speed boost, and the torp acceleration skill is rough for Kamikaze-R because  with a 6km detect/7km torp range, I lose stealth torping capacity with that skill), Survivability at t4 because 2k hp is a big deal for a DD (I would never take this on a cruiser or BB but on a DD that's a near-20% boost) and once I get a t5 skill I'll take Jack of all trades or concealment expert, haven't decided yet (it works out to a .6km decrease in detection range, which is nice, but faster smoke and speed boost recharge is nice too.) 

 

For my Farragut once I buy her (unlocked, haven't spent the creds) I'll probably go ahead and use a second t1 skill (Basic firing training) and swap out advanced firing training instead of survivability expert at level 4.

I'm trying this:

 

Fletcher

    SA

    TAE, LS

    TA, Vig

    Holding 2 out for now.

    Using premium consumeables

 

Fubuki

    BFT, SA

    EM, TAE, LS

    TA

    Also premium consumables

    Changed mods to gunnery. ( surprisingly good "gunboat Fubuki" so far)

 

Both setups give me 2km stealth torps range. I won out against a Farragut in a knife fight with the Fubuki loadout. Time will tell.

My Fletcher and Gearing Captains:

 

BFT

LS and TAE

VG

SE (Survivability Expert)

CE

 

Reason for the lack of SA is that the only thing that can spot the Fletcher and Gearing first is the Kagero. Everything else will be spotted at the same time or sooner than the Fletcher/Gearing

 

Also USN DD TA guide:

 

I didnt for the sake of the Mahan but here ya go!

 

I totally think its worth it for USN DDs:

USN DDs (with CE/With Concealment upgrade) can lose:

Mahan 7.1km Base - 9.2km Torps: W/TA: 7.36km - 0.26 km stealth window

Benson: 5.8km base - 9.2 torps: W/TA 7.36KM - 1.56 km stealth window

Fletcher: 5.8km - 10.5 km torps: W/TA 8.4KM - 4.7 km stealth window

Gearing: 6km - 16.5 km torps: W/TA 13.2KM - 10.5km stealth window

Now that we know the affects of torpedo acceleration:

  • Torpedo acceleration: Increases the speed of torpedoes launched from ships and aircraft at the expense of a reduction in their travel distance. +5 knots to torpedo speed; -20% to the torpedo travel distance

 

I totally think its worth it for USN DDs:

USN DDs (without CE/With Concealment upgrade) can lose:

Mahan 7.92km Base - 9.2km Torps: W/TA: 7.36km

Benson: 6.6km base - 9.2 torps: W/TA 7.36KM

Fletcher: 6.6km - 10.5 km torps: W/TA 8.4KM

Gearing: 6.8km - 16.5 km torps: W/TA 13.2KM

 

 

I'm not sure about yall but I dont fire torps at max range anyways, waste of time. So the Mahan would be the only one that cannot stealth torp unless you run Concealment Expert and drop its steath to 7.1km.
