Issues with resolution

I'm having issues since I updated to 0.5.3, and even saw this weird behaviour on the public test.

I own a laptop with an Intel IGP and a FHD panel. However, as you might know, gaming on high res and Intel graphics don't go alone very well, at least, not on my laptop.

Before 0.5.3, I was running the game at 720p, on a rather low resolution, as to not tax the IGP too too much when fights got intense, setting most things to low and very low, I was able to have a decent graphical experience at 30 to 40 FPS constantly, and topping at 60 on calmer situations, with the odd lag spike.

However, now that I have the latest version, all I see is this:

CVmjbmC.pngThe other resolution options are gone and can now chose only between those 2, which, being a higher resolution than before, lags me out and I can't go past 24 FPS and dropping below the 15s on more intense gameplay.

Question is, what happened? Where are all the other resolutions? What happened to the lower spectrum? I used to be able to chose anything between 800*600 all the way up to 1920*1080. How can I reverse this? I'm no longer able to run the game like before.

This would explain why everyone is having graphical issues. They removed most of the resolution settings.

do you have your aspect ratio set? if so, have you tried editing preferences.XML (in main WoWS folder)?

you can set a resolution there, just make a copy/backup before you edit anything. look for the lines:

   <fullscreenWidth>     XXXX    </fullscreenWidth>
   <fullscreenHeight>    XXXX    </fullscreenHeight>

where the Xs are your resolution.

my system shows resolutions down to 1280x768. so something may be wonky with your driver settings, or maybe driver needs to be updated.

and this does not "explain why everyone is having graphical issues"...are lots of people even having graphic issues? flashing is from SLI being busted again and other issues seem mod or UI related, not resolution.

OP, try turning off antialiasing - it is right there under the resolution drop-down.  That should help a lot.

And yes, there is something going on with resolutions.  Mine got cranked up and tanked my FPS by the patch - backing it back down has helped.

FXAA (fast approximate anti-aliasing) has next to no performance impact even for low-end hardware since its post processing, and this wouldnt be messing with the resolution settings at all.

of all the bug reports and other bug threads going back to yesterday this is the first i read about any resolution issues. my game settings didnt change due to the patch and i have all my options that were available before. not saying there isnt a bug, but lets make sure OP has other things set and tested before we gather the mob...

Hey guys! Thanks for the replies.

I've had this issue since the test. But then I assumed it was down to the test server being more limited. Now to your questions.

do you have your aspect ratio set? if so, have you tried editing preferences.XML (in main WoWS folder)?

(BTW your nickname always gets me to smile) I downloaded the 0.5.3 update yesterday and just now launched the game for the first time since the update. I hadn't fiddled around with settings, yet the resolutions was changed, and I noticed a big drop in frameate. When I looked in settings, it was changed all the way up to 1920x1080 (16:9) resolution. After I clicked the drop down, it only showed that one and the oddly shaped 5:4 1280x1024. Even stranger is the fact that the aspect ratio said it ws set to 4:3, even though I never touched that, why would I move it to 4:3 on a 16:9 panel.

I've tried that, but the biggest FPS hit was water quality. FXAA is not big. Most settings are down to low, very low or off, so that the IGP doesn't overload or overheat.

So I can force the game to run o a set number? Won't that break anything? If so, I'd do it, but I'm always weary of fiddling around with game files.

I know it is a strange bug, but I can't seem to fix it under windows 10 and my IGP.

im an old simpsons fan, cant help myself...

dont think you can just use a set number. first set your aspect ratio to what it is supposed to be. if the right resolutions still dont appear, then you can try customizing the settings in preferences.XML.

if you go the file edit route, just make sure to make a backup (if its a small file like this, i usually just copy/paste in place, then if there are issues delete the modified one and remove '-copy' from the backup and youre back to normal). worst case scenario, you can just delete the modded file and the game generates a new one next time you launch (but you need to reset all game options).

hope it all works out. right before i responded i noticed another user having resoluion issues. this has been a buggy patch...

Whelp I've tried it all, still no solution.

Reset, fiddle with panel resolution, drivers, and there's only those 2 options 1280x1024 and 1920x1080.

WG please, what have you broken? I'm now unable to play the game at those resolutions...

Wait for a fix? They screwed up the graphics settings and performance with the last patch. I used to solid 45 to 58 fps, occasionally dipping to 30 when the action is intense but now I'm practically capped at 20 fps, dropping down to 15 most of the time. It's unplayable.

UPDATE:

I´ve figured a way to lower the resolution but its annoying.

I can play on 720p if I choose windowed mode. And on top of that, I need to drop my panel resolution to 720p and fix the window to fill the screen. However, doing this does not scale some parts of the UI, and those are hidden under the top window bar and lower windows bar.

However it is annoying to drop resolution and playing without part of the UI. Buttons on the match end screen don´t show and I can´t look at how I fared, other than the frist screen. And there´s no button either, thankfully "Enter" works.

But even doing this, I have random frame drops from a solid 30-40 to 6-7. What happened to this game?

You are forced to run the game in 720p due to PC limitations, and windowed and in non native aspect and resolution, and your wondering why the game isn't working properly?

I'm sorry but you need some perspective.

If you click full screen the full range of options then becomes available you then choose what is proper and default before clicking apply.  You won't see the full range until you do this.

Trying to force a laptop to run full screen in non native can cause issues, if you get them delete your preference file and start game and try again.

I believe you might not have read the entirity of the post, or I might not have made it clear.

I used to run the game on low settings and on 720p, due to the IGP limitations and mostly, because I know it can run it without overtaxing my laptop. Before 0.5.3 I needed only to launch the game, and it would run smoothly, at most I would have drops to 20 fps on intense fights. However, I would never tinker my system settings for the game to run on full screen at 16:9 ratio at 720p. Granted, it was not the best resolution considering my full HD screen, but for the sake of heat constraints, I set it lower.

Come 0.5.3, I no longer can run the game at the lower resolution on full screen, as indicated on the first post, because it allows only 5:4 1280x1024 and 16:9 1920x1080, and there are no other resolutions available, no matter what aspect ratio I choose. The only way I have been able to lower the game resolution to a playable state is forcing it to windowed mode, and then forcing my screen to the lower resolution, which is far from ideal.

What I highlighted is exactly the problem I have. There is no option (showed on the original post image).

Good luck with your issue sir.

Thank you, but I still do not know how to fix it. And moreover, has nobody also seen this?

I know that in NA most people run their games on their NASA-level supercomputers, but I don´t have one of those. My gaming laptop died, and all I carry is my 13 incher now. I was able to play, now I can´t, and I have no idea what or why it has changed all of the sudden.

Delete your preference file start the client then hit options and try full screen then look.  You won't see the options until you click full screen and if you try to apply before selecting proper native aspect and resolution it can bork your system.

Worth a try yes?

Make sure your gpu is running your display at it's native aspect and resolution before you do this.

Google helps

Bottom left here windows explorer ikon looks like a folder open that with a right click and open as an administrator.  Game must be OFF when you do this.

Navigate the tree's and find your game C:Computer/games/world of warships for example.

open the games main folder look for Preference file under "O" and above "Q" right click and delete it away not it's contents the whole thing make that file disappear.

Start the game and that file is remade in whatever you choose to do next- refer to the steps above post.

Before you do that make sure you open up your display properties on your rig and verify your rig is running your display at it's native aspect and resolution-Google will find you better walk through than I can on that.  You have a different rig than I do.

Windows 10 calls it file explorer now sigh.
