No one is safe anymore. Even in cruisers, with my fighter out and HCS turned on, the torps are just too fast to evade. I'm starting to think Vigilance is going to be a mandatory skill.

It is. I had to forgo Superintendent just to have it (funny that should be the choice, it's almost like WG want me to use the premium Repair consumable). However it's no silver bullet, you can still get nailed very easily at high tiers for just being in the wrong general area, regardless of generous application of WASD. In fact, sometimes being in a wrong turn when you spot the torpedoes is what kills you. T9-10 has become even less fun (when I thought it wasn't possible).

5knot increase is like 7-9% decrease in detection.   not bad.  :D  I have vig in most of my ships anyway.

Torpedo detection ranges seem to have increased beyond that +5% addition to vigilance to me...  I can't land any torps with Shima since patch.

You aren't fond of the torpedo walls of doom either huh? Why I prefer mid tiers, torps don't make it half way across the map.

yeah, that was my thoughts as well sailing Fubuki.

The only torps hits I get are well placed pincer torps or catching a ship sailing broadside to my torps.

If they have even a slight angle, that VG allows them to dodge 8/9 to 9/9 torps.

Try it on the Fujin/Kami, its.... challenging.

I had a rough time getting any hits with torps last night.  It was a Mutsucky so no acceleration, but across two games I fired something like 72 torps and got one hit.  That was against a broadside BB at 3.5 km.

 

It wasn't preemptive course changes either, they just saw the torps coming and turned.  Even BBs.  Did they increase BB maneuverability this patch?  I didn't see anything about it but it sort of looked like it.

Sadly the new Vigilance actually over counters Torpedo Acceleration. Anyone not running TA vs Vigilance, well good luck hitting anything that knows what WASD is. Now you have enough reaction time to dodge anything.

Thats just the life of using a mutsuki.  Its a [edited]torpedo boat.

Thats why I haven't gone up that line. From my experience of deleting them, they do not seem to impact the game very well. Their stats say otherwise though :shrug:

In the past for me it's been something like 1-2 torp hits a game then one in every 10 games get a bunch of really stupid BBs combined with no enemy USN/VMF DDs and the game feels like the Minekaze all over again.

I have yet to see anyone post results of tests if TA has no detection range increase or if it does increase range.

last I heard, it doesn't, but German sonar had something like 5km torp detection range, where as the other nations only get 3.5km.

Just checked ingame, Ship detection is 4.98km, torp is only 3.48km.  If it is affected by skill and module, that would give a torp detection of 5.22km which would make sense to what I saw...
