Currently the upgrades for aircraft on the Bogue go F4F-3 FM-2 F4F-4. However, this is historically inaccurate.  The FM-2 was the last production version. Note the FM-1 same as F4F-4 except went back to 4 guns and added capabilitie to carry 250 lbs bomb or 3 rockets  under each wing. The FM-2 had a more powerful engine and larger tail to take the torque. This mark was designed with CVE in mind.

Remember this is arcade. ;)

Also, I believe the reason why WG made the FM-2 as the middle fighter instead of the top end fighter is it's armament.  Remember that the F4F-4 is the most heavily armed wildcat ever produced, every other wildcat variant had 4 50 cals while the f4f-4 had 6 50 cals.  I can understand thier logic here.

Bogue is also using the TBD Devastator instead of the Grumman Avenger. TBDs were withdrawn from frontline units the same year the Bogue entered service.

You forget that while the F4F-4 has six machine guns, it uses ammo meant for only four. Its ammo capacity was the same as the original F4F-3. The F4F-4 may be the Bogue's top fighter for now, but it has the lowest loadout.

It's not historical at all and is arranged that way it is for game balance.

If the Bogue class air wing was completely historical, they also wouldn't ever carry dive bombers, rather always Wildcats (of one type or another, depending on date) and Avengers.  The "stock" 1/1/0 Bogue loadout is the only one that's remotely close to historical.

And in general, the all-bomber "Strike Package" loadouts for pretty much all carriers, Japanese and U.S., wouldn't exist either.  With a few very limited exceptions, no carriers ever operated with this kind of air wing complement.

Sure, but you will delete fighters in dogfights way faster than if it was vise versa.
