Hi All,

I've been playing for a few weeks now blissfully unaware how to spread my Captains around my ships, as I haven't even bothered yet, until the other day when (under the mistaken impression I thought you could shuffle your Captains around within the same nation without penalty) I IIRC sent one to reserve and moved a higher skilled one to the same ship.

This is from memory but IIRC I then had various retraining options which scuppered my plan somewhat as he appeared to have lost his skills. . . I think.

Is there a way of moving a skilled captain from one ship to another within same nation, without penalty?

If not could someone explain how it all works, and most effective way of moving them around, or link me to a suitable explanation on t'internet somewhere. Ta. :)

Also what might be the best way of taking advantage of the Skill resets happening with tomorrow's update?

Thanks for reading.

Only when the ship the captain is being moved into is a premium ship.

In fact you can move a captain that is in training to a premium and have his skills work during the retraining period, class of ship does not matter either.

Premium ships are captain-trainers. They can train captains from the same nation without penalty.

Premium ships should not have a permanently assigned captain. You leave them captain-less and assign one for the battle only, depending on which captain needs it the most at the moment (except Premium ships for nations with no current tre like Blyskawica or Warspite).

When you move a captain to a new ship, and you generally should move your best captain up to the next ship in the tree when you upgrade, on the idea that higher tiers are tougher, and you should get all the help you can, then the captain needs to be "retrained" for the new ship. You can do this three ways:

1. fully retrained instantly for 500 gold

2. half-trained for 200,000 credits

3. no training for free

In the last two cases, the skills show in orange and they work at 50% effectiveness, except Situational Awareness which is binary so it is completely off until fully trained. Now is the time to move that captain to a premium ship of the same nation where all the skills are always fully available, and play it till he gains the skills back (becomes fully trained). You can do this in PvP or in Coop (at a slower pace).

This is one benefit of having premium ships for different nations. Of course not all ships are suitable for the type, as a premium DD (e.g. Kamikaze R) would not need the same skills as a BB (e.g. Kongo), but you do what you can.

Skill respec advice? See the different threads on this issue. It is complex and depends on the type of ship.

So if I start on the Russian tree I can move captains to the Murmansk, train them with a certain skill set in mind, then move them to the most appropriate Russian ship, without any penalties, ie the move there, and back again is "free" so to speak?

So ummm, is there any point in moving between nations, and if so what is the most "economic" or beneficial method?

Apologies for the newb questions chaps.

no, they still have to be retrained to the new non premium ship. Best way to do it is have a captain in one ship, when you're ready for the next ship move them and start the retrain. Once you start the retrain their skills will be working at 50%. Move the captain to your premium and play it until they are retrained (x amount of XP required) then you may move them into the new ship you retrained them to with their abilities active.

Thanks Alex, that's very helpful. :)

Is the Reserve also used when you want to sell a ship, so you offload its captain before selling? Also using the Reserve doesn't complicate things does it, over and above moving directly between ships?

Hopefully those are my last questions :)

If you sell a ship and have room in reserve the captain gets stuck there, unless you choose to dismiss him.  The reserve does not seem to complicate anything, it is simply a holding place.

Also, for those who were in the midst of retraining before the skills reset.  If you paid the 200K credits for the accelerated retraining, that got reset, too. :(

Right then. :)

Given the above, and my current situation is that I'm grinding up IJN DDs, currently Minekazi, as well as BBs with Kongo, and nearly a Fuso.

If if I were to purchase a premium Ishizuchi, could I effectively train both my BB & DD captains in her? (I can't justify cost of an Atago!) As far as requisite skills for DD or BB go, do you select them in the premium, or in the captains' original ship as training progresses?

Also have had a Murmansk for a while and have started up the Russian DD line, so same question applies.

i can easily experiment to find out but thought others might like to know how it works before spending hard-earned.

Yes, you can put both your BB and DD captains in the Ishizuchi, but they'll keep they same skills they had, so the DD captain might be at a disadvantage of having the 'wrong' skills for the ship.

Same for the Murmansk, your Soviet DD captains can train in it.

Thanks Jinxed. :)

Having typed what I typed earlier, I went and bought myself a premium Atago yesterday. Great moneymaker!
