dont know about essex but those USN dive bombers hit like trucks and it seems that they no longer miss... dont miss on DDs or BBs

I just attacked a Kagero with 3 x (7) Plane DB Squadrons off my Essex. Stern to Bow Auto-Atttacks. Out of 21 planes only 1 bomb hit. Bad dice or still way to dispersed to actually matter?

 

I was very disappointed in that outcome... of course it was my first test with the New USN DBs...

That's actually pretty normal.  Even aiming down to perfectly hit a ship standing still at mid-deck you'll be lucky to hit half your bombs.  It's slightly ridiculous.  No,  it's extremely ridiculous.  But eh, I've been on my soap box about that and 5.3 long enough.  The only change was 30% to DB's and...well,  it's something I suppose.

Just did the same thing, he was pretty much at full health. I removed him from the map in about five seconds. Did almost the same to an Atlanta a salvo later. I was initially very displeased by the air wing change, but I'm beginning to wonder about the DBs. My question, though, is if an Essex can remove a Taiho with one salvo, as the Taiho can do to the Essex.

The new heavy bombs are more likely to cause citadel hits (deal the full 9750 damage rather than just 1/3rd of it like a normal hit would) on CAs and CVs.  It depends more on RNG than a Taiho alpha-striking an Essex in terms of landing hits, but Essex's AA is much more powerful than Taiho's; I've seen Essex captains running their ships with an AA rating in the 90s while Taiho skippers can barely hope to match 3/4ths of that.
