Now I know my team probably hates me for failing to kill this guy, but he was in a New Mexico, and was definitely of at least equal skill to me because once he had no one else to kill, he was putting his New Mexico armor to a thorough workout from me

I was pretty hyped after laying the smack down on one Kuma with a devastating strike and making the second Kuma go full reverse outta dodge before I did the same to him too that losing turret#2 on my New Mex didn't bother me at first because I generally do not find USN BB captains who use their armor well.

 

It turns out that this teams defeat was pretty much entirely on me because I really am used to shooting enemies that I am moving torards, and moving away from him seemed to make my shots go poorly right at the end when he was not going full speed.

 

I would normally use the excuse of "if I hadn't lost my second turret, things would be different" but its no excuse- I honestly believe if I was not forced to play while in retreat that I would have actually had control of the fight, but I couldn't risk another change in tactics to charging him because I was operating on 3 less guns than him and did not want to chance giving him a shot at my broadside again. Once was bad enough and what got me into that situation because I just wanted to get rid of him and move onto the Fuso.

When Im up against a BB player who keeps a sharp angle and wont give me a good shot, I just start using HE on him.      He would have burned to the water line with busted turrets before you needed to lay that many shots on him with AP.

I am VERY much against even loading and tainting my New Mexico with HE, but you are probably right. It would have actually won me the battle, and you do see right before I decide to abandon killing him and kill the crippled cruiser in an attempt to buy more time I do just that

I hear ya I hate loading HE in a BB my self, but if there is a BB player who knows how to effectively use his armor then AP becomes difficult at best to do any damage with.

most of my salvos were still doing decent damage, but only because I was hitting with so many shells- with the fight being short range
