I Like Gnevny

So in my first battle with the Gnevny, I instantly fell in love with it, and won't be selling it haha. The turret traverse is kind of painful after coming right off the Izyaslav, but the guns, OMG the guns. Getting Citadel hits against a cruiser in a DD has never been so much fun before. That poor Phoenix never saw me coming haha

 

 

I think I might be more successful in these than IJN DDs. I killed 2 ships in my first battle with this, putting the hurt on a Phoenix, had I aimed better it would've been 3 ships for this game, I mean seriously, sure, I ambushed the Wyoming around an island, but still, this ship. Damn this ship is fun. It ended up better than Minekaze's first battle haha

The juicy citadels are great, for both Russian and American destroyers vs. those light cruisers.

I recently sold my Gnevny and bought the Ognevoi .... BIG mistake!! Once I get the credits and the Kiev I'll buy my Gnevny back! Great DD

Great ship, for it's tier.. I'm just a short grind in the Kiev from the Tashkent, but I'm still keeping the Gnevny... Had my best DD game ever the 3rd time out. 6 kills. 12 cits, 9 torp hits, fire, awards, the list went on..

She's a lovely ship I must add. The fourth best buy after K-Berg at Tier 5 for me. (I'll be free XPing past Ognevoi, but before that, I'll be racking up some skills in my captain, my next skill is Superintendent. Fourth captain perk after that will be Last Stand, I don't like being a sitting duck all that much.)

 

But for now, I'll be using Gnevny quite a lot, especially for credit making. But the fun factor, I'll be keeping her for the fun factor :3

I couldn't bear to sell my Gnevny once I had enough exp for the Ognevoi after some of the games I've had in her. Lone Battleships are her b[edited], especially this one game where I nailed two full-health Kongos with torpedo runs (Sadly, it was a 5 kill game before the Kraken achievement.) She was also good to me in last season's ranked, though I didn't have the time to do ranked that much. The trouble is I moved her captain up the tree and training a new one can be painful.

 

If I had the free exp, I'd skip the Ognevoi at this rate. I lost a game because, I kid you not, the last enemy Cleveland with only 1K HP killed my guns, I was the last person in range to engage them with them up on points with 2 minutes left on the clock and going for a torp run on them would have been suicide. First VMF DD I don't have fun in. Even the Derski and Storogevoi were more fun.

How on this beautiful blue planet, can ANYONE hate the Gnevny? I haven't played her much because I am currently upgrading my Mogami, but this little ship is... it's too much fun for a Tier 5. I literally have to resolve myself to play another ship after playing Gnevny for a bit haha

 

 

Yes, I do have a premium multiplier, plus flags and camo haha (for that XP.) But seriously, how does a single destroyer be this fun?

There's something so fun about cruising around at nearly 40knots dancing between incoming shell fire while plinking away at enemy ships.  It took a few games to get used to the long distance style of the Gnevny but now that I'm almost thru with it it's probably one of the most enjoyable ships I've played in quite some time.

I like the Nicholas way more. Faster guns, same damage, can actually turn fight and get up close, torps are a viable option instead of last ditch. Gnevy always seems like it had to be Konisburg, but without the damage potential.

unlike nicholas, gnevny is much easier to hit stuff at the max distance

I kept selling and buying her back only to put her captain in whatever DD I was working on and selling her again.  Gnevny captains live in: Kiev, Udaloi, and Khab.  If I had more port slots, I'd buy her back again.  Pre-nerf she was even better, but she's still great.

The guns used from Gnevny to Udaloi A hull had the HE damage reduced from 1900 to 1600.  Of course, Gremmy wasn't affected.

I've had plenty of XP to move up to Ognevoi but haven't wanted to, or felt the need to. Data-wise, I don't see any advantage to the Ognevoi over the Gnevgny.

Fully upgraded Ognevoi has better turret rotation (about twice as fast) and rudder shift (3.8s with Hull B and Steering Gears Modification 2). I didn't like Ognevoi at first, but now I find it's a lot more agile and fun than Gnevny. Add AFT and it's capable of serious ranged harassment.

 

 

And I hear Kiev is good so I think it's worth pushing down the line.

It's worth pushing up the line until you get to Trashkent; then you just want to pull your hair out! Blessed relief, you unlocked the Udaloi.

Gnevny is great once you realize that it is awesome as a ranged gunboat where the turret traverse isn't as big of an issue

Ognevoi was a chore. Now Kiev's my first T7 keeper-ship (I usually blast-on). I have researched but not purchased the Tashkent as I've heard bad things, love Kiev and like to keep a couple of T7's for credits/fun games vs. T8 - where everything turns to muck.

I still like the Nicholas way better. I can't stand the turret traverse on the Gnevy. I can't dodge shots and shoot, it's not that much more accurate than the nicholas, the guns are the same power. The Nicholas can survive and torp, where as the Gnevy you just sit back and take RNG shots.
