I tried playing the Hosho and did no damage. :(

I guess I'm not good at CVs...

Well, your sig DOES say "Incompetence Extraordinaire". I won't argue with that.

IMO I'm mediocre at cruisers, instead of incompetent.

I'm horrible playing any other class though.

Mm...it looks like you dominated the Langley's fighters.

Is it possible that you were fighting a player new to the Langley?  I noticed that their fighters tend to pop like soap bubbles until they're somewhat upgraded.

And using Air Superiority in a Ryujo, I still need help gaining the advantage against Independence fighters.  1v1, and knocking one of their fighters down with a strafe, I still find my squadron losing.

I did that with the bogue... doing 120k some matches and nuking everything, full bomber loadout. Much fun XD

Practice practice practice.  I particularly love that moment when you're sitting in a ship and all of a sudden, it clicks.  And then you suddenly play it like a god.

I went into the Langley with Aircraft Servicing Expert on the captain. It was a slaughter (I even got a Clear Skies on it in a 2v2 CV match). I also had my 7 plane squadrons on the Ranger.

Best part was that it was all from keeping him on the Arkansas until I felt like starting the CV line.

Air Supremacy the five-point Captain trait?  Or the 3/1/1 setup with normal sized squadrons?

Take a look in the CV forums.  There's a discussion on what occurs if the US CV pilot knows how to use strafe.  If memory serves right, the only hope is to juke the enemy strafe.  Even with my Air Supremacy-perked fighters on the Hiryu it is not a sure victory.

What he meant is that he put his 5th skill captain on his T4 CV. captain skill tend to increase plane and fighter dps by a fair amount, especially the fifth skill that add 1 fighter and 1 bomber to every squadron. This pretty much mean the ennemy langley fighter couldn't touch his fighter and his planes were nearly unkillable for other ships. The true definition of seal clubbing.

The five point Captain trait with a 1/2/2 loadout.  The opponent that I'd like to beat is the 1/1/1 Indie.   I find that I need to select the location because a straight out confrontation often end with my fighters wiping.  I don't think the plane specs are that different and I have all the available survivability upgrades for the fighters.

Let me 1-up you hehe. I've gone up to the Midway on the USN CV line, and I just played my first game with the Hosho, after spending 25 gold for 3 captain points and free xp'ing everything on the Hosho. Here are the results:
